My friend is looking for a good Pre Amp. He really has his eye on the ADA M1 Pre Amp. I was just wondering what have you guys heard about it or has anyone tried it out. I know the guy in Type O Negative uses it.

I've got two, and i love them. Pretty damn versatile, and if you spend the time setting it up right, making sure you've got good tubes in there, then there is plenty of gain up to a Slayer kinda level, but if you wanna go further, then you'd need a boost pedal. The clean is really good, as is the in-build chorus- you can get a Nothing Else Matters clean tone out of it so easily (helps that 'tallica actually used those preamps in the studio!).

Easily modded, and the only thing i'd advise, is to get the MDRT upgrade- it's a transformer upgrade that produces better, cleaner output for the tubes, so they run more within their ideal parameters. The original transformers aren't bad, but the MDRT just makes it a bit better

Agreed, these little beast preamps have loads of potential for modifications. They are kind of rare to find in good shape and they will cost most when you do find one. Most of the ones I see that are in great shape have already been moded.
