I can give you some advice but first you need to know what you want, do you want a big rig for gigs etc? or do you just want a bigger amp?

the ammount of money you would want to spend is the primairy factor isn't it?

well there are lots of good bassamp's out there, expensive ones but really good ones are David Eden's, SWR, Hughes and Kettner etc.
more affordable are the Peavey's, Hartke's and Trace Elliots etc.

but its also a matter of which sound you'de want to get...

I think Trace Elliot doesn't exist anymore. You could get the last ones perhaps

Try Glockenklang. But fucking expensive. Or Ashdown.

If you want to play on stage and your guitarists have about 100W-amps, you'll need about twice as much. Try to get an amp with a huge EQ (5-band; 7-band;...). It's necesassary if you'll play undistorted. It'd be nice, if the amp has some effects "on board" like a compressor. You'll get a really tight sound with it.
But more important than an amp is a good bass-box. I play a 2x10" with a tweeter from SWR. That's a pretty sweet one. I'd like to play a 4x10" with tweeter. You'll get more bass, because of more surface. And the tone is "fast", beasue of little speakers. Not like 15" or 18".

glockenklang, I don't know if they can buy it outside of germany or either the EU man.

you're right about the speakers, the more surface you get the better the bass will be, though, big speakers are difficult to power, so it's better to get more smaller speakers than just one huge ass 18' woofer or something.

I have a hughes and kettner bassbase 400 with 2x15' and a horn, the sound is great, the tube amp is great for powering those big speakers, but it was a really expensive amp, I got a good deal for it though, and it's not in production anymore but I can still buy extension cabinets for it, but I don't really need them.

If you want a really clean sound, you'd buy not a tube-amp. It can produce some rough sounds. For clean-sterile sounds transistor-amps are better.

well, we use euro's, but it's about the same,
for 300 euro's it's still pretty difficult to find a really good amp, you won't be able to get a david eden, swr or anything like that.

peavey's and hartke's are still an option ofcourse, maybe a Peavey TKO/TNT, that's the best you'll get for that ammount of money.

uhm, well I'm saying you won't be able to buy a top of the line amp, that's for sure.

bassamps are really expensive (especially good ones) but the peavey tnt/tko series are the cheapest bass amps in their range (+/- 100 watts), the TKO is 75 watts and is in your price range, the TNT is more expensive (not much though) and its 200 watts at 4 ohm/100w at 8 ohm

I think they are just a bit more expensive (350 euro's or something), I think that's the best buy you can get for that ammount of money.
I've searched for a good bassamp myself for a really long time, till I got lucky buying my amp second hand (if I would buy it new I would be really poor, it's 1750 dollar!!)
I did spend a lot of money on it, but hell I'm happy with it and I use it at every gig we play, it's a good on-stage amp.

I don't know what you expect from your amp, If you want to do serious gigs, you should consider saving up money for a stack or a big combo, about 400 watts. thats what you'll need for bigger gigs.
If you just want to use it for smaller gigs, 100/200 watts will be ok, but it all depends on the stage and the pa (or maybe there isn't a pa available!)

you could take a look at the peavey site, the tko and tnt are listed there, www.peavey.com

it's a dillema hehe, you could save up more money and buy a really good amp, but you'll need a good bass to hear the diffrence between a good and a fantastic amp.
if you just need it for playing at home buy a 50w hartke or something, really compact things with great punch.
