Active p/u's vs. active electronics, etc.
Gents,
Please forgive a total noob question - but what is the technical difference between active pick-ups and active electronics with passive pick-ups?
Secondly, would it be possible(or even sensible) to "upgrade" a bass, such as a Spector Classic4 with passives, to active pick-ups also ala EMG's?

*I checked the gear section/EMG's... sticky and that didn't exactly clear things up. Perhaps I'm just really off-base on thee terminology, etc??
