JB question
My seymour duncan sounds really cool, the only problem
I have is that it is a little too bassy. I've noticed when I have my pickup selector on my bridge pickup, and turn it's volume down, I can hear a little bit of the neck pickup bleeding through. So is this what is making it so bassy? Or should I get a new pickup, I'd like a little more output anyways, I'm used to a detonater (invader copy)

First of all I'm baffled how anyone that likes the Invader/a copy of it finds any other pickup bassy. What pickup is it? If it's bassy it's probably just the characteristics of it and your guitar, if it has very very little treble try getting 1meg ohm volume pot for it. And if there's some bleeding through from the neck pickup you should get the guitar rewired(new pots, wires, probably switch too, jack isn't necessary unless your signal cuts in and out often or crackles when you move the cable around).
Also just IMO, if your guitar has tone knobs(especially if more than 1) I would bypass them completely in the guitar's circuit. Even if they're on max, they still drain a little bit of your pickup's treble response.

well, mabe it's just that th JB is so weak compared to it. And the neck bleeding through doesn't present much of a problem. I'm guessing I'll just get an invader, since I'm used to it. ALTHOUGH i'm really interested in GFS pickups. but I haven't heard anything about them.

haha soeru, you've been on those new volume pots since you found out about them, how are they working out for you? Or have you got one yet

I dont know if it is the neck pickup bleeding through, when you turn down your volume you will lose treble response if you do not have a treble bleed capacitor wired to your volume pot. If anything, the JB isnt very bass heavy at all and has a lot of upper mids. I would look elsewhere in your rig for the answer.

Warlord, what kind of guitar ( wood-wise ) do you have? I've owned a JB-7 before and I want to try to picture how that would sound depending on what guitar you have.

it's a jackson RR-3 it's made of alder. the bass isn't so much of a problem right now. I really like the way the pickup sounds too. It's just weak. I wish I could have it's tonal characteristics in a stronger form.

Just a little update:
For some reason I really like how the JB sounds now. It isn't bassy or anything. I guess I just had to get used to it. Also I noticed that the sound varies depending on where I am in relation to my cab. When I moved into a bigger house I had more room to sit in relation to my amp and IT didn't sound bassy anymore......Is that plausible?...or am I full of shit?

bigger rooms make things sound different. A thick chuggy sound could sound shrill and light depending on the size of the room, not where you sit.

ah, ok...well. It was a positive change regardless. Now I don't have to spend money on a new pickup.

+1, room acoustics have a HUGE affect on the sound. The bigger the better I think.

Yeah, but I'm still wondering if there is room for improvement, although I am very satisfied with my sound....Have any of you guys switched from a JB to something and noticed improvement? Does anyone have a duncan distortion or custom?

i had a duncan distortion in my ibanez RG (basswood, tuned down to B) and it was ok but i'm happier with an X2N in there now. i had a different amp when i had the duncan though.. i would kind of like to switch it back again, but i'm sure i'd still prefer the X2N. i am holding out for an eBay gem to slap that duncan into.
