Eh, he said he was going to a while back. Something about the combination of it, work, and his band taking up too much of his time and him not being able to see why school, unlike a job that pays him right now and a band that he'd drink a gallon of piss in thirty seconds to continue playing with, was benefiting him. I'm not sure if he admitted to being willing to drink piss or not.

Tranny, that sentence made no sense.

I'm ashamed of all of you, since I've been gone a couple days and we're still on this RTT.

Has anyone listened to Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows? Sycophant recommended them in the Sad Music thread. Absolutely beautiful music.

No it isn't. Flametal is beautiful music. Fucking good stuff!

Although I haven't heard that too-long-of-a-band-name-to-scroll-up-and-cut-n-paste.

Flametal is good drinking music.

You should check Sopor Aeternus out. They give me the same feeling as Ulver.

No no no no no! Then Ulver hasn't touched you well enough! Ulver's touch is unique, like your fathers upon your leg. I am on my second bottle of wine and my 4th run of Flametal's "The Elder" (which I believe is an EP or else a badly burnt CD).

I have video called "2 dicks 1 babysitter" which consists of 2 dudes raping a baby to death.. dare I post it? It'd put everything else to shame!

It's a combination of reasons;

I absolutely suck at it.

I could be doing things more fulfilling and potentially more worthwhile, and even if I'm wrong, it'd at least feel alot better than being stifled and suffocated in those classrooms.

Because I suck at it, it's a waste of money. More so, a waste of my mom's money.

My reasons for going have been skewered so much from going to find my future, to going to make my resume look good, to going to make my parents proud, to the point to where I'm just registering to stay covered by my mom's health insurance, which is not only a ridiculous reason to stay registered, but a pathetic one, especially since I now qualify for health insurance at my work so long as I average in 20 hours a week.

I'm finishing this semester, though. Hopefully pass at least one class. Not that it matters, but I guess at least it shows not ALL the money had been wasted. Just most of it.

Just to sum it up, I've gotten sick of it. All it is is more of the same crap I endured in high school, except I'm paying a grand to go to something I hate and see no personal benefit from. Even music theory was a bust, and that was like my light at the tunnel.

What year in school are you? And are you a part time or full time student? I highly suggest staying where you are, at least to finish up the year. You could always transfer that credit somewhere else in the future once you get things straightened out and shit.

Everyone's always all OHH EM GEEZAH, then jack shit actually happens. I bet weather stations only do that for the sensation/advertisement. We got about an inch last night and then it started to rain and has been ever since. It would be nice if one of my teachers decided to stay home today, though.

hahaha ok

In other news, i'm supposed to get a tb shot every year at my job in order to stay on the schedule. I am not a fan of needles after a particular period of time so I avoided getting the shot for 4 months. This morning my boss called asking if I could come into work today thinking that I was still in high school and that It had been canceled. After I said I still had class we hung up she called right back telling me to come in and get the shot or else i'm not going to work. OOOOO big threat That would have been a vacation on my part.

I only need to save up $2,000 more for car payments and then i'll be all set for going away to college. Just going to work full time during winter break that way I can take it easy for the next semester.

Listen to him....

I even sometimes find my self in class going this is utter bullshit, but at the end of the semester man its well worth it. Fuck, make some friends in school, meet a girl, and get laid. I mean I've seen it least 2-3 guys in school come out of their shell. Make the situation of school better, by going out with classmates and what not, don’t sit around drowning on how shit is or suppose to be make it happen.

I've never seen a black person shout 'hail satan'.

Somehow I have this mental image of white-trash, long haired, beer drinking metalheads that shout it.
But not black people, I like to think they're more complex and listen to BB king, Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker. I know this is not reality but just my mind farting. Not to be a racist or something but it just struck me.

John Lee Hooker is the absolute king of western music

Went to see Chuck Berry last month and its was a huuuuuuge disappointment. I mean, the dude's a fucking classic with his old face and big grin, but he can't play for shit and his backup band is just pure crap (ex. the pianist and bassplayer)

But not black people, I like to think they're more complex and listen to BB king, Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker. I know this is not reality but just my mind farting. Not to be a racist or something but it just struck me.

It seemed suiting for the absolutely ridiculous content I was posting, but in actuality I am a christian, and I despise satan(he's a bastard). I don't listen to BB king, Chuck Berry, or even know who John Lee Hooker is, but I think my love for classical guitar makes up for not having any types of feeling towards blues.

Unfortunately the reality is, that most people in general(except black people) have bad taste in music, and the only thing remotely complex about them is how they can be so tone-deaf.

You are correct estringrev, it's just an utopia that exists in my mind. I've had some great conversations about jazz and blues with some guys from Jamaica lately..
They were part of a band that played a few small local gigs, guys has a great feeling of rythm and really showed they enjoyed the music that they were making.

I'm not even a big fan of reggae but I especially enjoyed the discussion about the roots of blues and jazz, etc. Ofcourse I know most black kids these days listen to (bad) rap and R&B.

However, I must say I quite enjoy old-school hip-hop and turntablism. Back in the day when the DJ was still the artist and the rapper/MC was more of a helping hand. It's the other way around nowadays.

I think that the national charts show how bad the taste of the general population is. Like 90% of it is overproduced crap with no real meaning. Sometimes there's a small gem in between but this barely happens. I hardly notice it these days, whilst this was different in, let's say, the 80's. Maybe the general taste in music is just deteriorating.

For me some types of music are an acquired taste, like a 20 year old single malt whisky. Not everyone enjoys it.
I enjoy a lot of different music and metal is just one of them. It's not like I listen to that mostly. Even though I play in a band, some people expect me to be 100% hooked to metal.

By the way. Satan's shedder apperently isn't an atheist. They don't believe in any god. But on the other hand, he just seems retarded as well.

I totally am in the same mindset you are regarding all that, man. Well said. People look at me strange when I switch out my CDs in my car from Delta 9 [extreme techno] to old Priest to Jeff Beck to Bjork to Killing Joke to Suffocation and back. Fuck anyone who tries to pigeonhole you or anyone into easy labels; these people are shit and can only see things in black and white, not grey as life really is, and are a true threat to freedom of the human race.
And the public's taste in music IS deteriorating. Without some kind of stimulating visuals provided with the music these days people won't - and from what I've seen - don't consume music normally as before. Next thing you know we'll all be getting handjobs while listening to Radio Disney. It's getting pretty pathetic, and to me this calls for the rise of creativity in all forms of music, especially our beloved extreme ones... songwriting strength and good hooks are fine, but without any true defiance of supposed set ways that are re-established every musical cycle, the next one won't happen, which is why for me, alot of popular music has been really dull since the millenium. I really wish another band like Throbbing Gristle came along now and kicked everyones asses.
I love my green tea.

Yes, even psychopaths like Reqtum have some sort of contact with females on rare occasions. I'm probably as surprised as you are.

Your personality, or your lifestyle? Capricious isn't necessarily a bad thing... if it's your personality that you're uncomfortable about, find some crazy assed bitch, I'm usually pretty good at finding them anyways

I can't say that I've really gone out of my way to experiment with many types of music besides metal and classical. Blues hasn't really appealed to me outside of a few guitar lines, and I haven't heard too much Jazz. On the other very rare hand I hear some rap/hip-hop songs that do appeal to me.

I think as we venture further into the future that peoples' taste in music will simply get worse, because unfortunately, just about everything has been done 10 times, and the majority of people just repeat what has been done, leaving the musicians who try to be creative and original only to be heard by a select audience. What you end up with is what we have now, a music industry that is basically a lottery(get rich quickly scheme) that finds good looking people, and regurgitates the same shit music over again. Money takes priority over creativity in this world, and the media has a monopoly on music, so as everything progresses forward I think that the people who listen to good music will decline more and more.

Satan's Shredder was just a retard that I decided to sig because I happened to find his comment entertaining at the time. His religious background didn't really matter to me.

I disagree entirely. I just read recently that console gaming has outpaced music in sales. The industry is dying, sales are gonna be dominated by wal-mart, most record shops are slowly going out of business.......It's all changing.

It's not so much people's taste in music per say, it's just what they are exposed to. We are moving away from television to the net as a dominant medium(slowly) and with that people are getting all kinds of access to all kinds of music. The exposure of underground music has gone thru the roof, it's all a pretty big boost.

BUT Everyone is losing money tho because of downloading. The independent artists and underground stuff has the least to lose tho. My theory is that if the industry decreases in viable profit.........then it's gonna get more interesting.

Jazz and Blues are gonna always have a niche of die-hard collectors and fans, it has survived the last 50 years and will continue. I think the same will happen with metal, punk, avante-guard music. Relapse records and the big metal labels will fade. but there are layers beneath that of diy/small independent labels out there that'll thrive.

I agree with you on the underground movement getting a big boost. Over here local artists get theirselves noticed on podcasts, myspace, etc. But people really do pick them up and they are broadcasted on radio stations as well.
One of the biggest nationwide radiostations even has a 2 hour oldschool hip-hop special and a two hour metal special and they do play very decent tunes. Artists that usually would never be noticed, not even by fans. They just condensate the real good stuff out of the big bunch which makes it easier for listeners. And apperently the guys working for the program do have a good taste. Which shocked me at first, to be honest.
Turns out the radio station hired guys from the underground and not just you're average 'fake radio laughter' DJ's.

I don't think the big labels will fade away entirely, the cd market for metal won't just dissapear. But eventually I fear it will go down the same road as LP's/Vinyl. It'll sure take some time but just look at it, how many people still use a portable cd player? Hell, I've been using Ipods for years now.

On another note, I still use vinyl for some (really) old records that I enjoy. I'm an audiophile and an addict to good tone. CD's can't catch the 'vibe' of old LP's and MP3's can't either. Which is why I still use and collect them. (not in high numbers.)

I don't agree with the exposure part for 100% , some people just wouldn't know good music even if it hit them in the head.
The general public just enjoys simple and overproduced music that has little or no value to me. Like I said before, sometimes there's a gem to be found but looking at today's charts I really can't say I enjoy much of it.
Ofcourse the exposure of underground music helps that particular scene to blossom but it's still on a relatively small basis. I think there will still be a 'main stream' where most of the money will be earned.

Not only the national charts but I used that as an example for the 'general taste in music' of today. Don't think there's a better measuring point.

I'm not such a pessimist considering the state of music these days. There's enough good stuff out there to be found. I wouldn't dare to state 90% of today's music is crap.

Vinyl. I read somewhere, in the US at least, that vinyl manufacture is gonna be kaput in a few years. The material itself is gonna stop being made, I believe, because it's nasty to the environment and theres little use of the stuff for it's manufacture to continue. This along with major pressing plants going under, there is only a handful of places that actually mass-produces vinyl.

http://www.sammcpheeters.com/writing/alberti.htm

Here's a little tidbit on the closing of one plant, written by someone involved with alot of punk/hardcore/indy labels.

The mainstream will be greatly diminished, but yeah.....it will exist in some form.

There will always be an economy for bands to record/release/self-produce/run small labels/tour and make even or earn a little dough. That's all I pretty much wanted to do in life anyway so...........

Yeah, I know vinyl will probably dissapear entirely, who knows, the same might happen to CD's within due time.

Who the hell still uses mini-discs and cassette's these days?
Or what about the DAT tape? Great carrier for audio but it never got of the ground, same as the minidisc. Introduced to late just before digital audio carriers showed up.

I agree there's always an economy for underground bands/labels, if there's a bit of quality people will buy it. My band is signed on a relatively small underground label as well but the guy running it is making enough money to call it his job. Which is pretty cool.

It wouldn't exactly be my kind of carreer but it's good that someone can earn money doing what he likes. Which is basically, checking out new bands, networking, listening, going to shows and investing in what you think is a good investment.

nah vinyl will always have hardcore fans...its not an upgradeable medium like tapes or 8 tracks. people dig the big art, the sound, the limited pic/color disc runs, stuff like that. i work in a record shop, people buy records ALL the time and pay a lot for them, whereas we dont sell many cds , and the cds we do sell go for less

vinyl will continue to be a scaled down medium (we are the only store in our area that sells records) but itll never DIE

i have to agree..vinyl seems that it will always have a place. kinda like old muscle cars but in different ways. there will always be the older crowd..well for a while at least. then younger generations today that like vinyl. i guess it's popular with metal musicians/fans, but i'd say it's even bigger as far as punk rock goes.

That's true. But I doubt vinyl will still be available (new) in let's say, 30 years. However if we look at the time it's been in use, it might be logical to conclude it won't completely dissapear.

Time will tell, there's a lot of collectors out there. It's not only the metal scene that has vinyl dudes, the hardcore and punk scene have a way bigger scene for it. And classical music has loads of vinyl releases every year mainly for audiophiles. I wonder how that market is developing, globally.

Oh man, you reminded me. There's a closet in my parent's house full of vinyls like that - progressive rock and old hardrock and metal, all classic shit. It makes me cream everytime I see it, seeing Priest's "Sad Wings Of Destiny" on vinyl next to Genesis's "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" with the huge ass covers and the smell of the actual record... vinyl is cool as fuck, I even have a turntable at my place and I actually got Arcturus's "Aspera Heims Symfonia" reissue on vinyl. Besides how would I play all my extreme techno 7' and 12's?? I'm totally down for spinnin' dat black circle.

nah vinyl will always have hardcore fans...its not an upgradeable medium like tapes or 8 tracks. people dig the big art, the sound, the limited pic/color disc runs, stuff like that. i work in a record shop, people buy records ALL the time and pay a lot for them, whereas we dont sell many cds , and the cds we do sell go for less

vinyl will continue to be a scaled down medium (we are the only store in our area that sells records) but itll never DIE

Oh, no doubt people are still collecting. The article I read, which was years ago(wish I could cite it) explained the situation from the angle of the people who produce the actual material. It's a cross between new environmental code and diminishing profits that the actually vinyl itself will be phased out of production, the black goo that gets stamped and lathed.

It being a petroleum product, so I presume the actual refining of the material has to do with big oil, rather than the music industry itself. It seems that it's not profitable enough to be sustained much longer. The article also mentioned that an alternative material is sorely needed to save records as a medium.

With that said, I don't know how reliable the source was.

Haha. Not everyone got a day off though. We got it just because he killed himself in our building. Actually in the room where we were supposed be the whole day.

The thing with Vinyl, is that it is an analogue format, that providing it is kept in the proper conditions, will last almost indefinately, and will definitely outlast a CD. I can't see the vinyl format dying out, people will pay a premium for vinyl because of the quality. Even small bands releasing <500 cd runs are producing vinyl because people will buy them. The only downside, is that an album has to be mastered specifically for vinyl- if you dump a album that has been mastered for CD on a vinyl, it'll sound alright, but no where near as good as it should.

With analogue formats like vinyl, there is one standard- the audio is pressed into the disc a certain way (obviously there are different play speeds, but they are just the same format)... with CD, there are a huge number of formats for the one medium- Red Book being the most common for Audio... if cd players stop incorporating the Red Book format in future generations because there is a better format to store audio on, then all the CDs that you have won't play.

And finally, a CDR will not last a long time at all, if kept in good conditions, you'd be lucky to retrieve all the data from it in 10 years time. It is not a long-term storage media like a pressed CD.

I like CDs though

The biggest difference is the shape of the soundwave, on a CD it's digital, thus the 'waveform' is in steps, like stairs.
On vinyl it's analog and the waveform is fluent, which makes it sound warmer and more dynamic.

Ofcourse the quality greatly depends on the recording but that's also the case with CD's.

Sometimes I never really remember the proximity of death.
Things like these are not only terrifying but tragic.
Tragic in a way that says: 17 years old? why not an old woman? with a life under her belt?
