hum problems
My drummer plays VERY loud (as they all do) So when my band jams I have to turn my amp up pretty dang loud so I can hear what I'm doing. And my amd is usually very quiiet, but when I turn it up that loud it hums like crazy. What is a cheap, but efficient noise gate, or hum cancellar I can get. My amp has a built in noise gate, but that didn't help as I had it on when the humming started.

If you mean just electrical hum as opposed to guitar feedback/squealing the an Electro Harmonix Humdebugger will sort that. Otherwise just find a used Boss NS-2 on ebay.

Does your amp have an fx loop? Be sure to run the gate in the loop, because that'll also help you stop not only hum but also screeching feedback before it starts occurring. Also don't set the treble and presence too high on your amp
NS-2 all the way, I'd recommend it even over a more expensive pedal like the ISP because it gives you a decay knob to set how smoothly you want the signal to fade out when the gate closes.

Where would a pedal like the NS-2 go on your signal chain? Would it go after the delay right before the FX Return jack?

I keep it right at the end of the chain, after the delay and all that stuff. Probably not wise as it might be cutting out the echos too soon if you set the threshold too high, but I've never had problems with it cutting my signal when I play with delay. *shrug*

Well, I'm using a line 6 spider (don't flame!) It has built in effects, but I do have my pressence and treble just about maxed out.

Friend has one, and uses a Boss NS-2.
Just get it.

Well run it with a lot less treble and bass, and use more mids and you will hear a definitive drop in noise. Too much treble brings that 50-60Hz type humming noise.

Ok, I''l try the less treble thing. My bass had to be lowered recently anyways because my JB in my new guitar has a lot more bass than what I was used to. If that doesn't work too well I will get an NS-2.
One more question. The impedence on my head reads 4 ohms minimum, and my cab says 8-12 ohms, could this be causing the problem?

That's definitely not it. I'm running my VH140c (rated 4 ohms minimum) into an stereo 8 ohm cab, and it's perfect.

I just tried lowering my treble and it didn't help. I'll get a good noise supressor.

How does too much treble give you a humm in the low end?

By 50-60Hz cycle hum I mean the electronic white noise that inherently comes from AC power(50Hz in European voltage outlets, 60Hz in America). Uh, well maybe that's not the most accurate description, but it doesn't have to do with the low frequencies.

Just a follow up (sorry to revive):
I got a used NS-2 last night. It fixed everything, and it doesn't even effect my tone in any way. But I do have a question....how would I use the send and return inputs????
Is that for an effect chain? If I only use one other stompbox aside from the NS-2 should I use the send and return?
please note that I haven't tried this out because I dug my bad monkey out of my closet and discovered it didn't work...I'm just planning ahead for when I replace it with a new (better) pedal.

Oh man, the NS2 is the shit.
And you've got the right idea.
Here's a really, really quick guide to the ins and outs on the NS2:
Input = here goez the guitar
Send = here is where you plug all other pedals/effects stuff
Return = here you plug the last output from all the other crap you plugged after the "Send" jack
Output = output to the amp/whatever
You can lookup "NS2 manual" in Google and it should get you to the BOSS site where you can d/l the manual. It's simple to get once you "see" where everything goes.

ok....I get it. But I'm really only going to use 1 maybe two more pedals...I should still do this though....right?
