name for this technique?

this might be a stupid question ... but is there a name for the technique of bending the high E string all the way off/around the end of a fret so that the note jumps about 5 semitones up? (playing it against the edge of the binding etc.)

i'm not sure how to better describe it . it's a little trick i like to use, but i just wondered if there are any legit players who do this, and if theres a name for it.

Not sure if there's an actual name for it, but that technique was mentioned in a thread about cool tricks and sounds. I actually had a scanned article illustrating it. Think it was Kirk Hammett that talked about it.

there is a cool thing similar to that with harmonics on the 12th fret of the e.

Play the harmonic, then bend the string below the neck with your index finger on your left hand. It gives an awesomely insane high sound.

Don't know what yours is called though...accident that sounds good occasionally?

I doubt it's known as anything, or really even considered an actual 'technique' at all.

Not sure how Kirk never managed to do it again, it's easy to do it accidentally let alone if you're trying..

Nah it means there is a tiny gap under the edge of the fret. It happens from time to time. The 5th fret of my friends USA Jackson had such a problem. A luthier can rectify it.
