I need slapping - I'm yet to fucking hear their non black metal work, went really REALLY close to buying blood inside on the basis the ulver = awesome but bad reviews put me off...

The poor reviews is based soley on the fact that they used to be black metal and that they are far from it now. I would suggest listening to their fan myspace page for a taste.

I've only listened to it once, mainly because Perdition City is so amazing and I just got into Ulver so I'm going to be alternating between A Quick Fix of Melancholy, Perdition City and Shadows of the Sun for a while.
