Bluegrass Sounding Scales and technique
I have earlier today found a new tecnique on guitar were you down pick with the side of your thumb and uppick with your index finger on the next strind up (higher pitched string). For example:
T=Thumb i=Index
t i t i t i t i
e|----6----8-----5-7-----------|
b|--5----5----3------8---------|
While Using this i have found it gives a cool banjo sound when done on the E and B string. I have found some cool Bluegrassy licks and things to do like:
E|-0-0-0-0-0--------|
B|-0-1-2-2h3--------|
and
E|-6p5p3--3--------------------------|
B|-------6---6-3-5\8~~~~-----------|
I was wondering what are good scalles to use for bluegrass becouse i've decided im going to write a small bluegrass thing, i think it would be cool.
Plus i get more music practice in other genres.
Also the finger and thumb deal is great with arpeggios like"
E|-----------------------5-8-5------------------------------------------|
B|----------------6----6-------6---6------------------------------------|
G|---------5---5----5------------5---5---5-----------------------------|
D|---7---7---7-------------------------7---7---------------------------|
A|-8---8--------------------------------------8------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------------------
wich would be more difficult with a pick.
Jason Becker (or Marty Friedman) does something like this in the song Desert Island from Cacophonly. Jeff Loomis also got influence from that to do in his guitar contest when he was 16.
If anyone is having trouble grasping this concept i will perhaps try to post vids.
So bluegrass scales? Bluegrass licks are very welcome aswell.
