ZIP Files for Larger Tabs?
Would there be any chance of allowing ZIP files to be uploaded in the tab submission process if the tab is too large for the forum? I'm talking mainly about Guitar Pro tabs, which seem to get larger with every new release of the program, so eventually the majority of tabs submitted will be too big.
I've been thinking about the downside to ZIP files, and the only thing that came to my mind was the possibility of viruses. But I think this would only be a concern if anonymous tab submission was permitted, whereas the current system would make it fairly easy to track people who uploaded malicious files and would therefore be discouraged from doing so. Besides, I'm reasonably sure that ZIP files are permitted as standard attachments on normal forum posts anyway.
A recent tab of mine was 142KB in size, and when zipped it is only 10.4KB. You know it makes sense!

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I think the tab submission filesize limits are the same as the limits for general attachments to normal posts. So, changing one would change the other, and it wouldn't be economical for people to be able to attach enormous files at will to their standard posts. But if the site would accept tabs in ZIP archives it wouldn't be necessary anyway

Hence the suggestion for ZIP files The tab can remain in the ZIP after validation, i.e. when a user downloads that particular tab from the main site it will be zipped. This will solve the 100KB limit problem without taking up loads of Nomad's webspace.
This will also be a "future proof" step though, because Guitar Pro 6 will undoubtedly yield greater filesizes than the current version, and fuck knows how big Guitar Pro 7 files will be hehe. PowerTab hasn't had an update in 400 years so I think those tabs are alright for now.

I hàte sites that host their tabs in .ZIP-files. Never download 'em. It's just too much of a hassle.
Just raise the limit by say 20kb or something.

Only tabs that are too big need to be zipped. And how much hassle is it to right-click the archive and select "Extract Here"? Wouldn't you rather have a zipped tab than no tab at all?
A 20KB increase wouldn't suffice anyway, some of my own tabs are 550KB, because they are either very long or have dozens of instruments. The only realistic solution to the growing size of tabs is ZIP files

Currently the maximum allowed PT and GP file size is limited to 256 KB, I can increase this to 512 KB if needed.
I will think about allowing archived version of the tabs but it would take some time to implement...

cheers for considering it.
...hmmm, I just re-submitted my latest tab, which is 142KB in size, but it still didn't attach to the post. Could there be something else wrong besides the filesize? Very strange...
Cheers mate!

because if its too big, im sure the site would lag, and to prevent spammer and sdhit like that, there is probally a good reason for that
