Chords

Hey people...I'm brand new here...and i'm a drummer so I have no clue about Guitar.

I'm into death metal and I'm planning on making a band sooner or later but i'm kinda keen to put together some guitar and drums in a program called FL Studio.

It's got a pretty good guitar plugin and u can put in rhythms (which I understand pretty well....being a drummer) and also choose chords or single notes on a keyboard...I'll post a screenshot.

pic here

The type of stuff i'm into: Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Necrophagist, Beneath the Massacre, Decapitated, Nile, Goratory....just to name a few. I guess Goratory is the kinda sound I'm after and my question would be...can anyone give me some advice on what chords to go for....or possibly even explain a little about scales and things?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't know if he knows tablature. Basically you'll want to go for power chords. Like E5, F5, etc. It really might come as a surprise to you but for this kind of music complex chords aren't seen a lot. As for leads and stuff you can use any scale you want. But major scales would be weird. Try minor, harmonic minor(my favorite), Diminished, Augmented. But for really brutal shit it's best to just stick with chromatic stuff.

Yep, I got no idea about tablature.....so thanks but it doesn't help me much.
