Good. Sensible decision. Hopefully, their swansong is brutal and they get out of the business with their etceteras intact.

I think they'll do us all proud on their final album. I think even Slayer has the integrity to go out with a major bang.

YOU UNGRATEFUL BITCHES! OH, PLEASE!
Slayer is the biggest thrash metal band. Is there anyone who doesn't know songs like Mandatory Suicide or Raining Blood?
CUT THE CRAP!
Stop bitchin' about how their last album sucks, just because of their past. If not Slayer, thrash metal wouldn't be this which it is now.

Slayer is one of the few thrash metal bands I hate, hopefully when they retire, I'll hear less about them.

I´m glad they´re stopping. Their last two albums sucked hard (I´m one of the few who thinks Diabolus is good). I don´t expect their final album to be any good, once most of these long term bands start rolling down the hill to shit there´s no stopping them.

I hope I get to see them in a smaller venue than fucking DTE Energy Centre before they go. That barely counted.

If they're feeling sad about it being the last Slayer track, it'll fade out.
I think the ending should be a 'classic' gig ending- drum crashes everywhere, Eb7 chord strumming, with 'solo' over the top (in the correct key, not the usual )

I think Slayer made some pretty sweet music back in the day, but I am glad that they are ending their career so that they prevent themselves from doing something that actually is horrible.
Like their new stuff or not, but Slayer has never lost their fucking balls and power.

Interview with Tom.
I don't really see Slayer making it into a big deal yet, I bet that when it comes time to start writing and recording their next album it will become more well known.

The point of great albums is that not everyone likes them, but some can appreciate them. Did i ever say that everyone likes Slayer? I can't see that shit... Maybe I'm fuckin' blind or I can't read at all?

They do deserve to retire. I mean how old is Tom anyways now? Last time I've seen them he looked like shit. They are way over the hill and are probably still making money as water.
Time to stop and enjoy all that cash. Over 20 years there will still be bands ripping off slayer-riffs, that's something to be proud of!

What money? Kerry spent it all on tattoos. But yeah, they do need to hang it up pretty soon. They've said it on multiple occasions, that once they feel they can no longer play this kind of music the way it's mean to be played, they'll retire. Peforming Slayer songs night after night is no easy task, it can get pretty physical. Shit, I'll rock out for like a half an hour, and I'll sweat like a mother fucker. And I don't play nearly as fast and hard as those guys do.
They built a hell of a legacy for themselves, and will always be remembered as one of the most important metal bands of all time. They broke plenty of new ground and new boundaries, and they deserve to be honored for that.

I'd say this is about the right time, I wouldn't have wanted them to retire sooner. What I've heard of Christ Illusion was decent, a few notches over God hates us all imo. Let's hope their last one will be a good way to end it (and hey, maybe I get to see them live a third time?).

Yeah, Christ illusion is better than a kick in the balls, but there´s not alot more you can say about it. I too rate it above GHUA, which is almost on a par with a kick in the balls.
Don´t get me wrong, Slayer have come out with some of my favourite albums, but in the last few years they´ve come up with alot of sterile, tiresome music. It is time for them to step down with as much dignity as possible. It would be a real shame if they fannied about spraying hot, steaming musical diarrhoea in our ears for another decade (a la Metallica).

God I've been waiting a week to say this:
They should have called it quits after Seasons.
I'm gonna take alot of shit for that, but post-Seasons Slayer was "tolerable" at best. They might have a handful of songs after then that are decent, though. Its been ages since I actually bothered to check.

Divine Intervention was better than almost everything else they did. Your opinion is not only stupid, but also wrong, gay, treacherous, and criminal.
Idiot.

Shit. I always forget Divine Intervention.
Statement stands though; anything after DI really isn't worth listening to with the exception of a handful of songs.

The later stuff is just not on par to the early stuff. Perhaps they haven't had any influences to look up to once the got to the midpoint of their careers. They 'were' the bar to measure up to. Where do you go from there? I guess you could say the same about ACDC, Iron Maiden. How long can you go on creating the same music? I'd be bored as hell playing it.

I dunno why everyone criticizes Christ Illusion so much. It's really not a bad album itself. Take it for what it is and not compare it to the classics.

In this case, the overwhelming majority of this entire board (and indeed of all those who draw breath anywhere & listen to metal) would never have had the opportunity to see them. You didn't even have pubic hair in the mid 90s.
Regardless of what you think of their post-'golden era' discs, the most important thing they've done for the last 15 years is what they've always done - roll on into town, put up a wall of Marshalls and play Angel of Death.

The fact of the matter is no one would want to see a band with such a long legacy change to a new vocalist after so many years.

I agree. Besides, The Ripper sucks. I really do. In Priest and in Iced Earth. Halford still rocks it though. I saw Priest with Halford right after he rejoined and it was badass. As for changing vocalists in Slayer, what would they do? Get the sing of Black Dahlia Murder? It'd be lame no matter what they did.

I see your point. But still, I know countless people who turned away from Slayer because of the new sound.

I don't have any problem with Hetfield or Araya. Araya can still scream like a mother fucker, and Hetfield can actually sing now, not just thrash stuff.

Fuck those people. Do you know how many more people would be turned away if they changed singers? I wouldn't want to hear some other guy screaming Angel of Death or any of the other classics. I want to hear Tom, the same Tom that's been there from the beginning and will be til the end.

I guess it could go either way.
It just sucks that I'll never be amped for a Slayer show knowing that the vocals are going to suck ass because Tom lost them and has to yell chants into the microphone and the instruments focusing on strictly sounding heavy rather than writing killer riffs. Thats not Slayer, thats what Slayer became considering how they now have to conform their sound with their coming age.. which just happens to sound slowed down and boring. Tom has no more vocal distortion and will eventually end up sounding like James Hetfield if they keep going.
Plus it doesn't make sense that there are still old school thrashers like Exodus, Testament, Destruction, Kreator, Overkill, etc.. who still kick major ass. Yet bands like Slayer and Metallica have to change their sound for the worst and water everything down while trying to hard.
There is no shame in hooking up with new members who can give you the ability to atleast sound half decent for the fans. Shit, half the people who go to Slayer go just because Slayer is a big name, not because they write good music(which hasn't happened in a while). As far as being in a band goes, your first priority should be to sound as killer on the next album(if not better) than you did the album before. Bands like Slayer will release a series of bad albums based on their self-pride and closed mindedness while being conservatively douchey on the idea that the members who were around in the beginning HAS to be the same line-up till they all die regardless of sounding shitty.
I'm not saying they should kick anyone out, just saying they could use some help.
