problem w NS-2

tore down my stuff the other day to clean, and when i set it back up the next day, my boss Ns-2 started malfunctioning.

basically the signal is fading in and out when using distortion, and there is also this high pitch digitalish feedback before the gate closes.

i know it's the Ns-2 by elimination of the other elements (including cords).

here's how i've been running it for the last few months
guitar > ns2 input
ns2 send > mxr eq > sans amp gt2 > ns2 return
ns2 out > soundcard

previously i had the ns2 and sansamp daisy chained to the same adapter. i was having some weird power problems before and i thought the chain might be damaged, so i'm running both on batteries now.

any ideas? idk much about pedal repair. thanks.

Did you check the jack connectors? I've had a similair problem with a boss pedal a few years back. Turns out the jack connectors where loose and made a bad ground.

These things are pretty much indestructible, so it's probably something stupid like that, screw off the back of the pedal and take a peek inside. Check out the jack connectors and make sure they're tightly secured both in and outside.

The feedback before it closes is normal when you use it with a guitar straight into it with high output pickups. It happens with mine too. You're going to have to cut down on the decay to 0 and experiment with the threshold knob. If that doesn't solve it completely, just run it like this:

Guitar > Sansamp GT2 > Boss NS2 > Mxr EQ in the send/return(if you want, or just run everything straight). Make sure the level/volume knob on the GT2 is loud enough so that the NS2 gets a good signal, but not loud/strong enough that the noisegate can't distinguish noise between playing and always stays open. Go back and forth between the threshold and volume knob on your GT2.

If you were to replace "sansamp GT2" with the amp I use that's pretty much exactly how i run it with my amp(NS2 in the fx loop, EQ pedal in the NS2's loop).

You can't even hear a pindrop through the damn thing.

Again watch the threshold knob closely, even minor adjustments make a huge difference, too much and you'll get abrupt cuts and no sustain, too little and feedback occurs.

def i opened it up but the internal connectors are encased in these black plastic boxes under the circuit board, so i can't really get at them ... not really sure how to go about it.

soeru i know what you mean. tried all tweaking i could think of. i think the problem is that i like the eq before the distortion. the mxr 10 band has volume and gain on it so i use it to fatten the sound up before it hits the gt2. if it's the other way around it sounds totally different and i can't get the same effect.

i've got a working solution for now:
guitar > ns2
eq in ns2 loop
ns2 > gt2

the gt2 is pretty quiet so this is ok for now. i'm not sure why it isn't working properly in conjunction with the ns2.

Because it's a distortion box, and the signal coming out of it is stronger than a dry guitar signal, which can make the gate not close at all if the level/volume knob on the GT2 is too high.
