I think the higher health (and self) esteem may be right. I knew a guy in high school that was really fat.
He spend his days behind his computer and collecting all sorts of stuff, he had rich parents so he didn't work or had much social contacts at all. Actually he was more like a person with a social disorder, extremely shy.

Last year in september I went to my university for a debate with a well known politician, at the reception a guy took my jacket and said 'hey Eddy, you still live in LSC?'

I was like 'huh? who's this guy?' turns out it was the same guy but he looked like he lost 50 kg's or something. I didn't recognise him, it took him two years to get like that and he had a special trainer and shit. Costed him (or prolly his parents) a shitload but he was a totally different person.
He's starting the same study as I'm finishing this year and he was working over there on voluntary basis. Who knows I might be his student-mentor next year.

Looked like his whole life was turned around, it really amazed me, not only the way he looked but how he acted and shit.

Saying fat people aren't smart sounds like bullshit to me, same goes for saying skinny people are better and some of the others mentioned.
However in cases like the above I can make the conclusion that the self esteem and health part is correct, still doesn't apply to every fat person on the planet though.

And in other news, I make my glorious return to the boards, after an absence of almost a year.
