Drum Samples ---> Cubase LE
I received a copy of Double Bass Mania II samples from betamonkey.com today but I have no idea how to actually get them into Cubase and my recordings. I ordered them in .REX2 format as that was recommended. Help? Man I seem to be asking a lot of questions on this. Cubase rocks so far but its lame theres no Tutorial or Guide or anything.....

You can't just use samples in cubase like a drum machine. You need a VST sequencer, like Battery, which is a drum machine plugin. But honestly I wouldn't bother with VST drum machines. I tried EZdrummer DKFH with LE and couldn't get it to work at all, I think that one only works on SX versions, and that's really the only VST drum machine plugin worth learning how to use. I suggest you get Fruity Loops, some cool samples(I can point you to some) and learn how to use it with 2 tutorials(that I can give you the link to) that'll teach you anything you want to do for making drum patterns for songs, then you just mix it down as a wav or mp3 and import it into Cubase when you're going to do the final tracking of ur guitars.
Kinda like chasing your tail but it works for me, I can't get anything else to work right for me.
Edit: And for a good cubase tutorial search mininova for cubase sx3, and there's a huge 3 Gb file that is a tutorial DVD that teaches you virtually everything you need to know, based in SX3 but the interface in LE is pretty much the same just simpler.

I apologise if I have confused things by mixing up 'samples' and 'loops' I now realise they are different things. Well I may have completely got it wrong but I thought that these loops were easily transferred into programs like Cubase/Sonar/Acid etc? The betamonkey website claims that they work fine with all of these and I got the corresponding file format for Cubase. I've read reviews of these particular loops and it was said to work fine with Cubase.... I could have got them in .wav format but again .rex2 was recommended. I'm thinking its just a case of theres an options box somewhere on the interface that is blocking the import, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

this is from the cubase manual, hope it helps. i've never used rex files myself, so can't shed any light on the issue.
1. Select an audio track and move the project cursor to where you want the imported file to start.
You probably want to import REX files to tempo based audio tracks, since this will allow you to change the tempo later on (having the imported REX file automatically adjust).
2. Select "Audio File..." from the Import submenu on the File menu.
3. Select REX files or REX 2 files with the file type pop-up menu in the file dialog.
4. Locate and select the file and click Open.
The file is imported, and automatically adjusted to the current Cubase SX/SL tempo.
Unlike a regular audio file, the imported REX file will consist of several events, one for each "slice" in the loop. The events will automatically be placed in an audio part on the selected track, and positioned so that the original internal timing of the loop is preserved.
5. If you now open the part in the Audio Part Editor, you can edit each slice separately by muting, moving and resizing events, adding effects and processing, etc.
You can also adjust the tempo and have the REX file automatically follow (provided that its track is tempo based).

Thanks man, well that will help once Cubase starts to accept any .rex2 files (which it should!). As of yet it still claims they are 'unsupported'.

Update Cubase, are you using the latest version? It could be that LE doesn't support it, just SX, but I think an update might fix it. Look in the menu for an "update" option.
