CIM complete festival review.
I threw this in the “BANDS” section because it focuses more so on the actual bands rather than the fest itself so here is a broad review on the greatness most of you just missed out on.
Friday July 20, 2007
3:00-3:25: Created To Kill (KY) – Pretty much a “meh” band. Nothing really special.
3:40-4:05: Goreality (MA) – I’m pretty sure I took a short nap during this band. I believe it was a one-man drum machine thing but I’m not certain.
4:20-4:45: Lust of Decay (NC) – Really good set from these guys. They played a Lividity cover which sounded great. Drummer was fast and perfect as hell.
5:00-5:30: Cardiac Arrest (IL) – Cool guys. Not really the greatest fan, but of all the times I’ve seen them this was one of the best.
5:45-6:15: Foetopsy (WI) – Completely awesome and the second best band of the day. Some guy kept yelling stuff and the singer would just shoot him down. Best song titles.
6:30-7:00: Aversion To Life (TX) – Meh
7:15-7:45: Unmerciful (KS) – Missed the set because I got lost in search of food.
8:00-8:30: Viral Load (TX) – See above. I was pissed about this one.
8:45-9:15: Human Artifacts (IL) – Pretty decent BDM. Matt Bishop (singer) put together the fest. Thank you.
9:30-10:00: Malignancy (NY) – Impressive. I figured they were just going to be another BDM band, but they added a lot of odd timing and technicality that worked for my ears. Check them out if you haven’t already.
10:15-10:45: Waco Jesus (IL) – Easily the best of the night. They always put on a great show and the singer of Foetopsy came on for a song.
11:00-11:30: Jungle Rot (WI) – Cool old school death metal. Nothing really special, but it got away from all the “chug chug sequel” of BDM.
11:45-END: Vital Remains (RI) – I was pissed at this set. They were very perfect and the guitarists were great, but boring as hell.
Saturday July 21, 2007
2:25-2:50: Cemetery Rapist (IL) – This guy was thrown on because Black The Sky dropped off at the last minute. It was total drum machine drug/porn grind with very abnormal vocal styling. Check them out if you’re into porngrind at all.
3:05-3:30: Atrocious Abnormality (NC) – Kinda dozed off as they played. It wasn’t really special.
3:45-4:15: Screaming Afterbirth (WI) – Hilarious set. They were making fun of the crowed for doing absolutely nothing and it was silent (I think everyone was still hungover). Played a bunch of newer stuff.
4:30-5:00: Dead For Days (IL) – Seen them with Macabre in ’06. Decent, but to me it’s almost as if they mix BDM with Metalcore. Listen and you be the judge.
5:15-5:45: Putrid Pile (WI) – Completely excellent one-man band. 100% perfection with his guitar playing and drum machine. Vocals one of the best in BDM.
6:00-6:30: Insidious Decrepancy (TX) – Another one-man band. Not as good as Putrid Pile, but decent.
6:45-7:15: Lividity (IL) – Amazing effort for Porno Death Metal gods. This is the first time I’ve seen them and hopefully there will be another.
7:30-8:00: Embalmer (OH) – Great stage performance, but the music wasn’t to my liking. There are like a normal death metal band with horror movie influences.
8:15-8:45: Gorgasm (IL) – Great, as always. Still didn’t play “Fisticunt,” I’ve seen them 6 times and still haven’t heard the fucking song live yet.
9:00-9:30: Cianide (IL) – The best death metal band that DOESN”T USE BLAST BEATS. Not one. They totally blew me away and, living in Illinois, I’m surprised I’d never heard of them before.
9:45-10:15: Devourment (TX) – I hate them, but were pretty decent live. The old singer came on for the last song and easily was their best.
10:30-11:30: Impetigo (IL) – The main reason I even came to this thing. This was one of the most exciting thing ever. They only played 13 songs, but the set lasted roughly 50-55 minutes. It was funny because some of the guys in the other bands (especially Dave from Lividity who was standing next to me) were acting like 13 year-old girls at a Backstreet Boys concert. I also got to meet Casketcrusher (from Metal Tabs) randomly and I think he was the most excited person there.
11:45- END: Mortician (NY) – Completely boring live, but I knew that. I wasn’t expecting to see a performance. Their stage performance does not delete the fact that they are probably the heaviest band to ever exist, because they are.
