New amp

Hey. Im trying to get a decent setup for death metal / gore grind.

Which of these amps would be the best?

Fender Deluxe 85 Combo
Marshall VS100 Combo
Crate gx140c Combo

They are all solid state and I can add a distortion pedal to them. I can get any of those 3 for cheap as hell. Which would you get and wut pedal would you add? thanks!

Also look into a used Ampeg VH-140. They're very highly revered around here for death metal.

don't bet on finding one
they are a near extinct breed.
if you do see one, snatch it no matter how much it costs.

but seriously go with the GX140C

Ok I think I might. 140 Watts is pretty nice too. Would I need to pair it with a pedal?

Not at all. Oh, and it's VH-140C. Forgot the C.

I have a Marshall valvestate for practice. Gives a great dirty distortion and sounds pretty good with a pedal as well if you are looking for a boost.

I would have also said that the Crate was your best bet if you can't find the Ampeg. Plus you wouldn't need a pedal with that either, saves some $$$. For your info though Chuck Schuldiner used the Marshall 8100 head (earliest form of valvestate). They made quite a few versions of that in 80w/50w combo form etc. Check it out on the Marshall website under 'Heritage'. Cheap on ebay too.

No the VS100R isn't really the same, lesser amp altogether. The 8100 is beginning to get a bit of a cult reputation as In Flames also used it on Jester Race but unlike Chuck they boosted it with the Boss HM-2.
