Technical Death starter song
Well, I've always played bodom, black metal, and Death. I've really never thought into playing more techical stuff. Recently I've been listening to recent cannibal corpse and necrophagist, and I want to start playing like that. I tried Cannibal Corpse's Frantic Disembowelment...I'm not quite there with my playing. What are some good songs to get me started with this kind of playing? I've been playing for 3 years, if that helps.

I can play the first part, it's memorizing the second thing, it has no pattern.....and it's fast....and stuff.

Yeah, I'll try really hard to learn it once my ingrown fingernail heals...it makes guitarin' difficult.

maybe try necrophagist - mutilate the stillborn, some riffs are pretty easy, and give you some good finger control imo.

All I could find was open face surgery(Cryptopsy), and it is really good..not as technical, but really damn nifty.
I'll try the necrophagist

Any song from their first two albums would be good. Just use wikipedia to look at the name of their songs.
Also learn some Death. Anything from Symbolic or The Sound of Perseverance.

Well, Ive really just started practicing sweeps, and I'm getting ok, but once I'm better I'll try necrophagist, that mutilate the stillborn had a lot in it. You must be pretty damn good if you think some of it is easy!

learn the song starting from about 0:22 its not that hard (sounds alot harder than it is to play) and once again, start slowing the song down and playing along.

Yngwie is bitchin' like crazy! Haven't hear of Narnia or Dark Moor though. I'm really up for learning anything cool. I've been so busy writing for a demo that I haven't been learning other bands songs. Which I'm sure is very bad for my playing. Now if I could just get my vocals in shape! eh, Requiem?

Yeah they are all pretty sweet. But the only thing worth learning by Dark Moor is their solos. And a few of their songs are pretty classical. What genre of music are you going for again?

I started off wanting technical death, but I really like neo-classical...so that's cool too.

Decapitated is always fun to play, so long as you don't pick a ridiculously hard song for a beginner. A good song to learn is Eternity Too Short though it has a lot of abrupt changes so don't go trying to learn it unless you've heard it through at least a dozen times. Other easier songs are Spheres of Madness, and something even easier is Way to Salvation(which I really like).
Cryptopsy is great too, I just learned Slit Your Guts and that shouldn't be hard if you have decent control over your tremolo picking.
And if you like tech death and neo-classy stuff, haha, well give Theory in Practice a try some time. Oh and Arsis sounds like something you'd enjoy learning, Dust & Guilt and The Face of my Innocence are challenging but fun to play.

I'm looking all that stuff up. My tremolo picking is really good, it was the first technique I really picked up. It feels good to learn other bands songs, it gives you more ideas!

What about Death - Low Life? Good song, and relatively simple for the most part, at least by death metal standards... and you're right about learning new songs by new bands. I always feel inspired when I start listening to bands I have never listened to or haven't heard in a long time.

I can handle death pretty well, I'm just not up to par with the solos. I can't pick that fast on the upper frets of the thinner strings. It's hard with so much tension.

Try Prototype from Martyr, the tabs is in their official web site. This song is really good for learning sweep and large fingering. Plus, there are many fingering and picking style, seriously check it out!

From Skin to Liquid is a good starter song from Cannibal.
Most stuff off None So Vile is pretty straight-forward....but the excellent tabs for it are absent from this site....
Overall though, you just need to find something you would like to play and listen to it over and over; learn to hum the song along with the tab too..this always helps.

I've been palying for a bit more then a year, extremely dedicated, its my life, i use to play the type of music a retard could (i.e. dimmu borgir, etc) then i really got into the tech shit, i didnt really have that much trouble changing, i started with songs like spheres of madness by decapitated, then in a week i was playing stabwound by necrophagist , just practice, practice, practice.(Still working on the solo's at 00:39-00:44 )

I like to play Dimmu Borgir. I just wanted to learn some technical death shit so I could have variety. I'm getting pretty good at technical riffs and passages or whatever you want to call them.

bah for the practise a lot shit, he's right, but prototype from Martyr is very good everything is perfect to upgrade in tech stuff. Go to their official website and then Media and Press, then media section and Tablature. I have copying the tabs on GP, but I wont post it. You have to ask me personally and I can send you the song. My technique have improve a lot!
