Fender head volume problems

I bought a used Fender Roc Pro 1000 a few months ago. I love the amp, used one for a whole US tour once, but mine has this problem with the volume. It'll be very loud for a little while but while playing the sound with suddenly drop and get muffled. It doesn't drop so far that it's inaudible underneath the drums and other amps... but it drops far enough and gets muffled enough that everyone looks over at me like "What the hell???" It will eventually rise back to where it's actually supposed to be, but then shortly drops back down again for a long period.

Could this a problem with the preamp tubes??? This head is a hybrid so I'm hoping that's the only problem and I don't have to dish out hundreds to take it somewhere to get fixed...

Swap em out anyway, preamp tubes are cheap. It could be the problem, I would try that first.

You can bet it's either preamp tubes or heat issues in the power amp if it's a solidstate poweramp.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll switch out my pre-amp tubes ASAP. Any recommendations?
