Mods Can Compose, Too, Y'know
In the spirit of things I thought I'd add my one and only concerted effort of recent times so here's a tapping piece that I wrote in about 30 minutes a while back. It's entirely tapped - with a pick I might add - but I'm too lazy to apply all the correct tap, hammer and pull-off notation to the score. Also, because I'm shit with Powertab, this is the fastest I can get it to go even though I rip through it a tad faster.
It was mostly devised as an exercise to improve tapping across multiple strings (you'll know the part when you see it) but it quickly developed into something that I consider to have at least some melodic merit when other parts were added.
I always liked the idea of making an album of reasonably short, grind-esque songs - though not necessarily as brutal, or indeed grind - whereby all I did was tap. Maybe when I get more time I'll be able to concentrate on bringing this concept to fruition.
Anyway, any comments are welcome.

That's really awesome! Tapping the whole thing, that's a really cool idea. What about like a rythm guitar behind it?

Haha, PsyOpus influence there. I know of your acclaim of the recent new album! Reminds me of like Siabhon's Song with Imogen's Puzzle Pt. II.
Great stuff. Has much melodic merit. I think it could use a countermelody of sorts, or just a harmony to start getting a texture going. Normal rhythm guitar would butcher this.

Hard to follow the keys and sometimes sounded atonal... I think a peice like this should probably sound melodic. A countermelody or rhythm section would be good I think.

I wouldn't consider having a rhythm line added, although a few different counter-melodies would enhance the overall sound and add sufficient body.
The piece needs a bit of work but, as I've been stuck in the work/study/drink-in-available-spare-time mode for the best part of three years, it's hard to actually sit down and put one's full force into it.
Plus Powertab (and other tabbing software) is almost completely unfathomable to me!
Anyway, thanks for the comments.

Yep, as I said, rhythms would butcher this, you have enough chords going on in the melody there.
I think diatonic harmony would work best for this, I don't think having all these odd melodic directions would suit the kind of speedy, straight-ahead feel of this. Although I'm not sure what would work for harmonies. 5th's and 3rd's, definitely. Stray away from 6th's. And well, you could maybe add bits of 2nd, in the right places. I would look to something like Necrophagist for clues. See how Muhammed chooses the notes.
Of course, it's up to you. I'm just trying to provide suggestions!

There's something I disliked about this piece. I would not listen to it for pleasure. I certainly don't see any Psyopus influence, the only similarity is mass amounts of tapping.

It has a similar feel to their song Imogen's Puzzle Pt. II. You clearly haven't listened to their new album, or even just very thoroughly to them. If you notice, I did cite specific songs of theirs.

Please keep the retarded arguing to a minimum.
And mods really can compose. Right now I'm doing the score to a short film I've just completed. Don't expect to see it on here, though.

Post something else, Mansley. I'd post some of my shit, but most of my compositions are songs that are 80% done. I don't think I've finished any song I've started in over 3 years. I write some kickass riffs, though.

I have some ideas but I just need to put them into the melting pot and see what sort of digusting beast is born from the fire. So to speak.

I see the problem. You have the whole piece composed of 8ths at 300BPM. Just highlight all the notes, make them 16ths and change the BPM to 155 or 160 or somewhere higher.
How's this?
