Well I just got my tubes changed, except the tech only changed the power tubes. His exact words were "Well I only changed what needs to be changed" Now hes probably not used to Death metal kids using tons of gain and what not. SO heres a question.

Since (Preamp) tubes are self biasing I could change them myself correct?

I am using a Triple XXX with 4 Sovtek 5881WXT's in the Power amp and some old shite Sovtek 12gayx7's

What i am looking for is a teence more usable gain, when i got it about a year ago it had more powah in the gain section and to get the tone I want/enjoy I only needed the gain on like 5 or 6 Ont he crunch channel, Now i need it on 11 (well 10).

I read a few old posts via the search and I found an interesting post by Soeru about Tung Sols

for the phase inverter, xdisx reccommends sovtek 12ax7-lps types... and hes a gear nut and knows what hes talkin about.
You say your gain is decreasing, and thats just because of old pre-tubes. Popping in some new ones should help lots.

Yeh i made sure i ordered the High gainers and one for the phase inverter 52 dorrah

Now correct me if i am wrong the phase inverter is right next to the Power tubes? err closest to them?

I had the same preamp tubes in my traynor combo amp I repacled them with Chinese 12ax7a preamp tubes. The extra a at the end of 12ax7 has some thing to due with the model name that signifies it is a higher gain model.
