Line 6 Uber-Metal, Digitech Ian signature pedal or similar.
Before anyone regurgitates their own vomit: NO THIS ISN'T GOING TO BE PART OF MY MAIN RIG I OWN A TUBE AMP ALREADY.
Now with that out of the way, I've recently been jamming at a mate's house and he has no amp so we're just running his boss mt2 and a really bad multiFX he has laying around hooked up straight to his powered mixer and PA system and it's working quite fine, although the tone is pretty much shite obviously but it works. I'm thinking of picking up one of these 2 pedals I have been very impressed by their sounds. They would be used solely as a preamp essentially(plus I have a cabinet-simulating DI box that can make dist pedals balanced and sound better straight into a mixer in case they don't have mixer outs, although he has no problems running his MT 2 straight into the PA.
So which of these 2 or other modern distortion pedals with decent sound would you suggest? Preferably stuff with mixer outs that sound at least decent. I've heard the new boss metalcore and it sounds like crap to me, I like the sound of the Digitech Anthrax signature pedal though, sounds extremely good for a pedal imo.
I hear the old Digitech metal master used to be extremely popular and can be had for extremely cheap, and it has a mixer out, anyone here have one?

I thought of the exact same thing, but I've already played one once and was very unimpressed, plus the Line 6 pedal has the same model found on some of the higher end Line 6 products like the Vetta which is superior to the distorted sounds on the old Pod 2.0's.

I have a metalmaster, I run it into the computer often to play late at night. Im quite happy with the sound, but as there is no gain knob, you can only have very high-gain sounds.
The morph knob is pretty cool, there are about 4/5 decent sounds out of it.
As for the Scott Ian pedal, (and the metal master) dont take notice to the sound-clips on the digitech website... They dont sound like that.

Oh wait --- I do remember having played an Uber-metal pedal. The Metal Master ( with the morph knob, have'nt used pedals for ages ) sounds better to me than the Uber-metal. Or if you want to spend a few more dollars and get a pedal that I would recommend to anyone wanting a pedal http://cgi.ebay.com/HUMPHREY-AUDIO-...tem110139728086

I had the Scott Ian pedal, it was really really bad. It has some horrible noise gate on it which I couldn't turn off, about one usable rhythm sound and some hideous delay effect on it. In the end I gave it to the rhythm guitarist in the band I was in, seeing as he liked it for some sick reason. However 2 of my friends have the Uber-Metal and for what it is, it seems pretty good.
