your favorite driving music
I got a totally awesome idea ALL BY MYSELF. What is your favorite music to drive to?
Currently, I drive to either Frank Zappa or Genesis. Sometimes Bacamarte or Mezquita. None of those guys are metal. I used to drive to Decapitated and Necrophagist....shit, just anything with crazy double bass and nice grunts.
I went through a Greatful Dead stage where I played mostly American Beauty. That was around the same time I started really getting into Primus.
I'd also like to add, I don't turn my music all the way up anymore. Back in the day though....
Your opinions?

BB king, Johnny Cash, John Lee Hooker. The laid back-kinda stuff if you're going on holiday or any other LONG trips with a car.
On an ordinairy trip everything goes.
I don't turn it up loud, there's usually someone in the car with me. Plus it makes you look retarded, I really hate people driving around with all windows down blasting shitty music.

Original thread idea moe. haha.
I don't have a car to drive, but when I hijack the stereo in my friends car..I mainly like listening to old school thrash(metallica, testament, kreator, slayer, etc) or just classic metal such as Iron Maiden.
I love Amon Amarth blasting in a car for some reason...good sing-along tunes.

Metalcore is good car music. Death metal is better car music. Thrash is fast car music. Grindcore is bad car music.

Psyopus has the opposite of that effect on me... Can't sit through it... Same thing with Car Bomb and Human Remains, something about all those crazy noises is like a lullaby

I listen to a lot of stuff in my car. What I've had in rotation lately is:
Iron Maiden - "Powerslave"
Blind Guardian - "A Twist in the Myth"
Bal-Sagoth - "The Power Cosmic"
Death - "Leprosy"
Black Sabbath - "Sabbotage"
Tom Petty - "Full Moon Fever"
Girl Talk - "Night Ripper"
Nine Inch Nails - "Downward Spiral"
In Flames - "Jester Race"
Boston - s/t
By the way, I don't think I could ever listen to music in my car quietly. I might not listen to it as loud as I used to but only by a minor notch so I can hear emergency sirens.

woooo! i forgot! there was this point when i hadnt smoked in a long time (weed), and my friend had just picked up this album. i had never heard them, and we needed to drive to town. by the time we got in the car, i was beginning to feel it. we finished off the joint, halfway down my street. it was one of those days where the clouds were ridiculously enormous. i was staring into them, and i dont think i looked down once. the music was perfect for this situation. due to my constant staring, it actually felt like i was in the fucking clouds! haha. FUN.
btw, your avatar just took my desire, for a supreme pizza, to the next level. i thought about buying one, all of yesterday, but i was too hungover to leave the house. today, well thats a whole other story

My avatar makes me hungry for pizza too. But I'm always hungry for pizza. Yeah, Bal-Sagoth is intense when you're sober.... I was driving to the record store I work at in the early morning and it was nuts how well the music went with the sky. Evening is the same thing but even more intense. And then, yeah, smoking pot and listening to Bal-Sagoth should probably have a warning label.

Keeps me awake because psyopus isn't predictable so while driving you think wow that was a random riff... also i haven't heard car bomb or human remains but since you used them in the same paragraph as psyopus they must be similar right =)))))))))

All depends on my mood. I mostly like fast and/or aggressive metal, but sometimes taking a road trip on a nice day calls for some Zeppelin and such.

bump!
Recently got license, getting a car likely within a fortnight so formulating music.
Have much in mind like Guttural Secrete, Internal Suffering and Gorgasm, but much chillaxed stuff I love too like Lamb, Air, Peter Bjorn and John, Leonard Cohen, etc. "music with girls in car , sorta thing".
I also guess DEP would be quite a poor choice, or many stop start nonsense as Psyopus.

I have Car Bomb's demo that I got at a gig like 2 years ago, it's still in the wrapper, anyone want it?
I don't drive, but I probably wouldn't listen to death metal much while driving cuz I enjoy sitting down and listening to it carefully. I'd probably like driving to some soft stuff like Pat Metheny or speeding on a highway to some early Van Halen.

lolz. Pat Metheny is good driving music. I listen to whatever I feel like listening to at the time. Sometimes Bach's Violin partitas sound good and other times I feel like some scraggly black metal. It all depends on the mood.

Liquid Tension Experiment is good for long drives; most of the songs run into one another with no noticeable separation of each track. Also any early thrash is perfect. Some rap here 'n' there aint a bad idea either, but you already know that. Oh and SRV!!!

I don't have a favorite genre for driving but certain bands/genres fit certain scenery, times of day, weather, and pace.
Currently in my 6 CD changer:
1.) Bjork - Volta
2.) Mastodon - Blood Mountain
3.) Mr. Bungle - California
4.) Ulver - Blood Inside
5.) Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
6.) Head Control System - Murder Nature

Lately Frank Zappa's album "Apostrophe" and In Flames "Whoracle" have hit the spot for me.

Currently in my 6 CD changer:
1.) Bjork - Volta
2.) Mastodon - Blood Mountain
3.) Mr. Bungle - California
4.) Ulver - Blood Inside
5.) Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
6.) Head Control System - Murder Nature

Do you really like Volta? Maybe I should give it a few more listens. California and Blood Inside both kick insane amounts of ass. I love that Cry of the Buttefly song or whatever on when the kite string pops. It's so fuckin ridonculous.
Lastly, Head Control System......as much as I love garm, it ain't his beset work. Sorry.

Yeah, I do like Volta. It's one of my least favorites of hers but its still good. HCS is definitely not his best work - I just recently got it and poped it in to get familiar with it. Only 3 good songs. As of earlier today it has been replaced by Sleepytime's In Glorious Times.

I was about halfway through reading this when I thought to myself, "there really ought to be some Tankard in here"... anyway, I'd swap out TV Hero for Shitfaced and the Motorhead songs for Overkill and Love Me Like a Reptile. Interesting playlist, though. I think I could tolerate a road trip with you.

what?? i didnt put overkill?? damnation i knew i guess my browser messed up in my edit post. i meant to also add Overkill and Iron Fist. note this is my wreckless driving speeding mix hahah, it could also be music for a road trip. id add some mellow stuff liek Alice in Chains or Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath for a cross country road trip cause i cant imagine absorbing the scenery of outdoors while blasting Deicide haha

depends
If with someone else: normal rock, hip-hop, or reggae.
If alone: old school metallica, the killers, and techno is fun to drive long distances at really high speeds to. (i.e. the stuff I'm too ashamed to listen to when anyone else is around)

Type O Negative - October Rust
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
John Frusciante - The Will to Death
Mortician - House by the Cemetery
Alice in Chains - Facelift
Deicide - Legion
Cianide - A Descent Into Hell
Morbid Angel - Domination (Mainly "Where the Slime Live" because it's fun to drive to)
Iced Earth - The Blessed and the Damned
Testament - Pratice What You Preach

Metallica-Master of Puppets
Its one of the two cassette tapes I have (borrowed, along with an Iron Maiden tape), and I'm too lazy to install a CD player or anything in my car.
