nile sound
hi,
i'm listening to "barra edinazzu" by nile at the moment and wonder how they get that fucking heavy sound out of there guitar.
they are tuned to drop A or something like this. but do they use any special scale or how do they get this sound?
and can you give me some tricks to get heavy-guitar-sound/heavy sound at all?

Nile does tune to Drop A, yes.
Karl Sanders, and Dallas Wade use a lot of bass, that's one way they get that heavy, but clear sound. I forgot what kind of Effects Pedals they use, I'm sure something like a Boss Metal Zone or even an Ibanez Smash Box would get that kind of sound, because those two pedals can get a good range of sounds.
Also, they do LOT'S of hammer-on's.  |

they sound more like they use Bb tuning, and probably 7 string guitars as well to facilitate solos.

The easiest way is to mail them and ask, cause I doubt they use MT-2's or 7-stringed guitars 
Edit: After checking a consert I had on cd I now know that they use 6-stringed guitars and Marshall (JCM-800?) amps, at least live...

about the scale, i'm not sure which of these it is but it's DEFINATELY one of the two: melodic minor or harmonic minor. one of those two give the sound of Nile, which is that middle-eastern "egyptian" sounding scale. i use it all the time. do some research on it.

That would be and scale in harmonic minor, they all have that evil, egyptian, pirate, sound. Look in the guitar forum and its a sticky i posted that has them all.
