power amps

What exactly are they? Are they heads? Ive seen rigs with no heads but power amps. Ive already looked and couldn't find anything.

Amp heads are essentially a preamp and a poweramp in the same housing. Say you buy a preamp like a PodXT Pro or an Engl E530, you can't just hook it up to the cab, you need a poweramp to drive the speakers with a high wattage signal to make some noise.

so if you get a pre-amp and a power amp, you essentially have a mix-and-max head. That is pretty damn cool
