Spawn of Possession
how many of you guys can play some of their stuff? i tried to learn some of it but after a couple of days of working on like two riffs i start to get pissed off and stop playing. like Hidden in Flesh and Swarm of the Formless are really fast. i was just wondering how many people here can actually play it and if so what kind of things should i practice or learn to be able to play their stuff. i just want to progress so i can be able to play that kind of stuff. thanks

Don't try playing it fast along to the record at first, if its too challenging its because their way of navigating the fretboard is something that you're unaccustomed to, at least at those speeds. Learn it, play it slow. You could learn the entire song at a much slower tempo and gradually increase until you hit the desired tempo, or you could just play the song over, and over, and over ( you get the idea ) slowly, until you feel like you could just 'snap' the song up to speed. Any parts of songs that I feel I can play, I go ahead and learn them, play along, and mark it down as a riff learned and played. Anything else I'll use one of those two learning methods, or a mixture of the two.
That's how you master technical metal, man : Its all about small bits of information until you have the whole picture. Its what separates people who can half-ass the first few riffs of a Necrophagist song from those who have had the benefit of studying, learning and playing entire pieces.

I doubt any post will be better than this, I probably would be a better guitar player had some one told me all of that along time ago.

You'd of been an even better guitarist if you'd of figured it out for yourself all those years ago... Pretty much common sense. I guess that's a bigger influence to learning speed than sheer practice
