Yeah, Kayo Dot is fucking awesome - one of my favorite bands. Kayo Dot just recently went over to Hydra Head records (Aaron Turner's label from Isis) which is exciting. It isn't the same band, they lost and added some members. They also just lost about 4-5 members which isn't as exciting. They're all really nice, too. I drove out to L.A. awhile back to see them (for the second time) and found out at the door that it was 21+. Outside was Toby, Mia, and the bassist and I struck up a conversation with them and they offered to pretend I was a "roadie" for the band so that I could get in but, apparently, security wouldn't even let a roadie under 21 in either. After hearing this Mia was kind enough to give me her phone number and HOLYSHITFUCKHERFUCKINGADORABLEFUCKINGFUCKEDHER.. I mean, um, told me to call her tomorrow and she'd give me directions to another show they had the day after and if I could make it she'd put me on the guest list. Long story short: couldn't make it! I was pissed.
John Zorn summed them up pretty well in this little paragraph: "Kayo Dot powerfully integrates elements of modern classical composition with the layers of guitars and vocals more common to rock and metal. With a compositional map that is strict in form yet malleable in execution, Kayo Dot uses a vast array of instrumentation to create an exciting convergence of violence and serenity."
While I love Toby.. I could never really get into Maudlin of the Well much.

im a huge prog fan despite being an avid metal fan and these guys are pretty good. May i also reccomend the ephel duath album "the painter's palette". Some trippy stuff there. Both bands are great at composing. I really dig the kayo dot stuff on choirs of the eye. Fantastic album.

NO SHIT?! I'll have to grab that.. as much as I usually pride in waiting for official releases from bands I really like, fuck it.

I can't put my finger on exactly why I don't like that he's asking everyone for money to do another MOTW release, but it bugs me. Especially the part where he says:

See my notes about average costs in the comments of the below posting. To quickly sum up, a full-scale song on average costs about $900-$1000 in the studio.

A grand a song? Come on..
