custom strings

I was just wondering how many of you guys use custom string gauges on your axe. I've been down tuning for a year or so and I've found that the only way to still be fast is to beef up those strings. Right now I play 58s to 11s and its fucking great. All the killer tone on the bottom and you can still shred like Yngwie on the top!! I think any band that tunes low can benefit from custom strings....

That is moronic, true guitarists don't care of the strings and just play the damn thing, and learn to play fast with any strings....

Inaphyt. I think you are THE, and I mean THE, dumbest person on metaltabs. Do you play guitar? You don't know anything about music [and don't forget you admitted to that.] You just keep coming up with the dumbest most stupid fucken 13 year old, 3 month guitar experience kid would say type quotes. God damn. You broke my 'Make Sense' fuse with your inane posts

you are absulutely retarded aren't you?
what exactly defines a true guitarist? is it someone willing to make art or tremelo pick at 320 BPM. your the kind of prick that lets the world spit up bands like necrophagist. what is wrong with playing comfortably on your instrument.

i guess you'd be A OK if i took your Jacskon KE3 and smashed it with a sledgehammer and replace it with a strat with rusty strings?
you need to shut up and learn that there is nothing wrong with being comfortable

Im talking about custom strings. Normal 12s and 13s com with a 3rd wound. My set goes 58, 48, 38 then 19plain 15 ,11. Eric Rutan does something similar. Doesn't Nile use a 70 for their low A? I bet they have 3 plain on the bottom too with all the crazy ass leads and shit.

so whats your point??

i used to play in B with a plain 3rd (26 gauge), and nowadays i play in B with a wound 3rd. doesnt keep me from soloing or whatsoever.

also what do you mean by custom strings? strings that dont come in a set?? if you would get some stringmanufacture to build you some string to your specification.. thats custom

its just finding whatever stringgauge combo that you prefer.

GHS will make you any gauge string you want. And it makes a huge difference when you do alot of dives with harmonics and shit like that. I was just curious about what everyone else is doing. I've noticed if I use anything
heavier than 20 plain the tone jumps all over the place. Maybe you guys don't put that much thought into playing guitar. But you should if you really want to shred and optimize your tone.

I know a bassist who uses custom strings, but I'm sure most guitarists could find a set they wanted, perhaps excluding 7 stringers. I buy a standard 6 string set and get a single for the Low B.

And since I found out D'Addario make half sizes (9.5 for example) I doubt anyone would need to. Doesn't stop people who can afford it getting custom spec strings made for them though.

The heavier plain strings don't sustain their tone very well. So thats why they put wound strings in the 12s and 13s. Blue Steel 11s put a 18 plain and a 20 wound so they give you that option. Its all about what your going for.
