Playing on worser equipment and tone

I've found that when I play on a crappy guitar and/or crap amp with bad weak tone I can't play half as well as I can with my Jackson and Marshall, its really frustrating. Does anyone else have this problem and do pros suffer the same?

i can find myself in that situation, might also be cuz your propbaly used to a certain sound,, and a crappy sound is less fun to play with compared to when your playing an amp wich just gives an awesome tone and makes everything sound good no matter what.

i dno about pros, though i think this counts for almost everyone.

That's common sense, of course you're gonna play a bit differently when you play with different sounds or tones that you're not used to.

i agree. and furthermore, i hate playing under limited conditions.. like playing at bedroom levels, i just don't feel the inspiration or excitement that propels my playing when i can play loud.

+1 to everything said, I nearly went mad when I sold my last amp and had to rely on a Marshall MG15 for 3 weeks. Theres just something really inspiring about turning up the volume and really feeling the bass kick you on palm mutes.

I don't think that amp tone makes such a big difference, at least not to me. But I have great problems playing on some guitars that I'm not used to. Say if I was going to play an Ibanez with .09 strings, I'd have big problems since I'm used to play on a 7-string with .10 strings.

It's all in what your used to really.

For example. i personally love the feel of the older model Yamaha RGXs (from the early 90's with the kramer pacer kind of head stocks) In fact last time I played with somebody I didn't have my RGX-421D and I played on their fernandes. I couldn't play any of the Paul Gilbert stuff that I use to get warmed up because the neck was fatter and had more of a curve to it. But when the other person picked up that guitar and started showing me stuff he could play it like it was nothing.

Needless to say we switched to playing on his EB axis. those guitars play like a dream.
