Effects loop question

I want to use the reverb from my RG150. I personally hate that device, but, i dont want to fork out the moola to buy a reverb and delay pedal yet, so, this will get the job done.
Problem is, if i just run it like
Guitar > RG150 > guitar imput
I get a shitload of unwanted gain...i'm not sure if you know what i mean, but, it sounds terrible.
The buzz is that i can use the effects loop at the back of my amp so that gain in my preamp will come AFTER the reverb and delay. I want to know how to do that. I'm using a mesa boogie triple rectifier, any help with how to set up an effects loop will be nice.

Well, the gain actually would come before the effects if you use it in the effects loops. If you problem is boosted gain, you still have it if you use it in the effects loops, you just need to adjust your level on the effects unit, its probably set too high.

You current setup would mean that reverb and delay comes before distortion. You said you wanted distortion after delay/reverb, which is the same thing. I'm not really getting your point here..

Anyway reverb, at least when built into an amplifier, is always placed after distortion. Reverb before distortion sounds super muddy, unnatural and undefined.

IMO reverb should be the very last thing in your FX chain. Think about it - reverb is naturally produced from your surrounding enviroment. It's in reality the echo of your guitar sound bouncing off nearby walls (or NOT bouncing off - which is pretty interesting). It might be your bedroom, a mountain cave, a studio, rehearsal space or a giant stadium. That reverb is produced after the speakers, and that kind of reverb sounds best, don't you think? After all, a reverb stompbox is a room emulator, a device created to get your guitar sounding like (just an example) you're playing in a huge old wooden church when you're in fact sitting in a 90 sq. ft. studio cubicle.

So what I'm basically saying is put the box in the FX loop and adjust the FX send / return on the amp and the output level on the box correctly.
