Just out of interest, why do you want to know? Are you after a particular sound etc? My understanding is that you have to use slightly heavier gauge strings on a 24.75 neck as opposed to a 25.5 in identical tuning. For what its worth I use D'addario 11-52's on my Schecter but thats 25.5 scale and thats tuned to Standard D, so I guess you'd be looking at maybe a 12-54 set or something. TBH strings gauges are a very personal preference, theres no right or wrong gauge to have. I went through about 3 different sets in D before I found my ideal tension. If you are playing brutal death you may want to go lower than D, unless its really old-school stuff. If I was doing a lot of shredding I wouldn't want to go lower than D though, just because at that point you need heavier gauge strings which often mean a wound 3rd string which would take a while to adjust to when playing leads.

I have an ESP Viper-500. I usually play in D# with 11-49s. If I was going down to D I'd get 12-54, to C# I'd use 13-56, 14-60 for C, and 15-64 for B. Keep in mind that if you want to use really heavy gauges (like 13-56), you might have to file your nut to make it bigger.

i dont really think you need a heavier gauge with a 24 3/4 scale neck. i mean, look at Zakk Wylde, or Buckethead. their shredding all over the place, but zakk uses 9-42 and 10-46. and i have no idea what buckethead uses, other than a 46 for his E on standard E. so if you're doing a normal startard E stuff, then you dont really HAVE to get thicker strings.

I like 46 or 48-10's in E, and I use 25.5" scale. 49-10.5 for Eb, 52-11 for D, 56-12 in C#...
Some people are happy with 42-9's in D so go figure, it's all really preference.

If you plan on tuning low on a 24.75, you WILL need heavier gauge strings than what would be used on a 25.5 if you want normal string tension. It's a fact, shorter neck = less tension.

I have 2 guitars, one thats 24.75 and the other 25.5 and I play in various tunings, but mostly standard E, C# and B. I use 13-56s for everything and it all feel comfy to me. Just use what feels comfortable/easier for you to play on.

I have to start off by giving a +1 to back gorath's post.
But for the info you requested: Caparison Horus, 10-46, Eb standard tuning. For all-round playing I prefer tense wound strings, however I like less tense strings (particularly the plain strings) for the ol' shredding. Normally I use 10-52 for E standard tuning on a 25.5 guitar.

I only own 24.75" scale guitars now... i just sold my last 25.5
I use 11-52's for both D and Eb. I'm upgrading to 12-56's for D & Drop C, but 11's hold up nicely for Eb.
Standard tuning, i just use 10's. Theyre plently tight.
