What 2x12?
Hey, i'm about to buy a peavey 6505, and I was just wondering what’s the best, moderately priced 2x12 to go with it.
My friends are telling me to get a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab with it because apparently the speakers are pretty good for this amp. But the thing is, I don’t want a 4x12 because I will have a lot of issues relating to space and transport. So yea, a 4x12 is out of the question.
So once again, my question to you is, what’s the best, moderately priced 2x12 to go with a 6505. I would preferably like to have a 2x12 that has good speakers that suit the amp.
This is going to be my first proper amp, so I have no clue about all this stuff.
Thanks!

Look for speakers that have somewhat of a warm, balanced sound but maybe with a slight scoop in the high mids (unless you like tons of mids and a super bright tone). The marshall 4x12's with the G12T-75's fit this description but i feel the treble in the G12T-75's sometimes can be too much with this head (bad ear fatigue).
Are you looking for used or new?
Avatar is great, they'll fit whatever speaker you want in a decently constructed cab for a good price.

Vader cabs are getting a good rap round here. I believe they can also fit specific speakers at request. Marshall do a couple of 2x12's themselves, best of which is the 1936, which is a slightly oversized cab. They are good value used here in the UK, but maybe not so much in the US. If you did go for one make sure it is pre-2000 built and preferably try and grab an 80's/early 90's JCM800/900 version. Finally my choice would be the Genz Benz G-Flex 212, which has speakers based on the G12T-75's and is ported for better bass response.

The G-Flex is a good suggestion, but the amp already has shitloads of bass, so he might want something tighter (closed back)? Anyway, I'm using a ported 2x12 and people call in earthquake warnings with resonance, lead post and bass on 4.

Gflex = closed back, ported for tight bass response.
gorath: the Marshall 1936 is garbage!! Horribly built cabs. The JCM2000 2x12's they make are way better, but still inferior to Vaders or Gflexes.
+1 on Vader 2x12's. They're 400$.
But if you play in a band, I'd get a Gflex cause it's around the same price and it projects a lot more than a regular 2x12, so it will sound as big as a 4x12.
If you lived in Europe I would've suggested Framus 2x12's, they're 260-300 euros here, best you can find new. I have one for my Fireball and it slays unfathomable amounts of ass.

+ 1 on the Framus, but I have no knowledge of v30's+5150 so I didn't say.
Soeru: Sorry man but saying the 1936 is garbage is just a big lie. Notice I specified the earlier model because yes the current Chinese ones suck big time, but before that they were well made and offered a 'big' sound, plus you get them with UK-made Celestions that way too= All-round winner. Plus I don't know where the guy is, if he's in the UK then they're an absolute steal used.

I don't think you want a 1936, it's almost as large as a 4x12 :P Huge..
Anyway, G-Flex would rock if you can manage to control the bass. Try it out.

If you life in the EU, go for Thomann. I got the Framus 2x12 from them for 260€ shipped to spain(free shipping cause I bought over 300€ of stuff), and no VAT tax!
Genzbenz G-flex 2x12s are now discontinued I think. Vader's are only available in the US, they will ship to the EU but will cost 200$++, so the Framus is the best choice you have. I can testify to its tonal awesomeness.

ported just basically means open front
and porting it doesnt tighten the bass, it actually loosens it up, takes away some of the attack and cuts off some of the high trebel. I cant imagine what a closed gflex would sound like... probably feel like a sledgehammer to the chest on palm mutes.

Dude, that is so cheap. Definately a plus-side of living in Europe is cheap access to all of the German/boutique amps.
Do you think I would have ANY chance of little shipping costs from Thomann? Even though Im not in the EU, or Europe for that matter.

I don't think they ship to the US, and if they did it would probably not be worth it.
Also keep in mind 260 euros =340$ or so. You could get an avatar or a vader cab for a little more, or get a 2nd hand G-flex.
Oh and if you're aussie then I don't think they ship that far.
Yes User01, the cab is of snazzy build quality. The voicing that this cab has with my Engl Fireball so totally reminds me of Decapitated's "Nihility", a really present midrangey growl. Of course it won't have as much bass response as a full 4x12, but use the bass and resonance controls and you'll get close. I still feel the palm mutes hard with it if I turn it up louder.
