Mithras.
Holy. Fucking. Shit. I can't believe I've put off checking this band out for so long. I've had "Worlds beyond the Veil" on my computer for about 3 years, never listened until last week when I grabbed their latest one and shat my pants with it, and proceeded to listen to their older shit.
Highly atmospheric but unrelentingly fast blasting death metal with kickass solos. If you like Morbid Angel's "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh", Lykathea Aflame, and Gojira you will love this! And if you don't, well get it anyway, Mithras kick ass. Highly refreshing and original.

Agreed dude! Those who like a more organic, "ancient", ethereal and "historical" feel to their death metal will love Mithras.

Their guitar tone sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel or underwater. Meh, for me.

Yeah the guitars are chorused to FUCK. It can get annoying, but after you get past it the music is extremely enjoyable. Their new one "Beneath the Shadows Lie Madness" is excellent, and WBTV is also great. A lot of ppl say their first is their best though, I haven't listened to it throughly yet.

Never heard of them before but I just bought 'Forever Advancing Legions' on iTunes for the hell of it. Sounds sort of like Morbid Angel. Thanks, always like being pointed towards something different.

My love of Breeding the Spawn should tell you I don't let poor production decisions to ruin anything for me.
What album reminds you of FFttF? That album ranks on my top 10 all time.

Hmm well their last 2 do as far as I've listened to them now, WBTV and BTSLM. They have similar riffing styles, and it has all that trippy atmospheric leadwork that makes FFtF such a mind-altering record. Not as warped as Trey's solos but still melodic, memorable and very overpowering crazy shit.
A good song to start off is the 3rd song on the last album "Under the Three Spheres" I think? Though I'd just get everything, they only have 3 full lengths so far.

I had to bump this. I was just blown-fucking-away by "Worlds beyond the Veil". The FFtF comparison was dead on, though this far eclipses it in my opinion. Amazing shit.
Anyone heard their first album? I heard a few tracks off the latest and they rule.

Yeah their first album rocks in fact I think its my favorite. It's the most aggressive sounding out of the 3 I think.

I have Legions and World both on cd... it's a bit over the top for my taste.

Good band although the Morbid Angel worship does seem to overpower the listening experience at times. The atmospheric tracks tend to be the ones that stick out, but yeah, decent stuff.
