I like Cradle of Filth as much as the next guy, but I would never think to put them on some high pedestal of all bands. "There's always a bigger fish." Hell, Disturbed is my favorite band of all time, but even I'm not arrogant enough to think bands like Death and Necrophagists and almost every Death Metal and every other TRUE Black Metal band aren't better than them when they clearly are.

Personally, I think CoF have sold out. They've traded in their raw sound for something smooth and easy to swallow, like a prettied up smoothed-over cough drop. I expect something sharp and jagged to remain that way and tear through my esophagus!

I know quite a lot of people who started with CoF (including me). When I used to like them they had a style of their own. (Principle of Evil Made Flesh and V Empire were quite good albums) But after that they just became a commercial band.

Now they are complete sellouts and they have the cheek to call themselves a black metal band. You cannot get away from them. Everywhere there are fucking kids who worship them. I really cannot understand how they can be so easily led on by this stupid trend. Black metal is not supposed to be a fucking trend!

Its just like that fucking Slipknot and Korn Trend that happened a few years ago. Now it is fucking Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth.

Both those bands are giving black metal a bad name. I dont even know why they call themselves black metal. They are both fucking posuers.

Um, no. I myself love Cradle of Filth (preferably older stuff, such as Cruelty and the Beast and Dusk... And Her Embrace) but Thornography sucks imo. Pretty majorly. I used to love COF but only the first few albums. Even Damnation And A Day wasn't too too bad. But their newer stuff is crap. They sold out. Now I understand maybe they just got bored doing the same stuff over and over again or wanted to try something new. Well that's what side projects are for. I hate when bands develop a great sound and they start to slip into mainstreem stuff. Take Xysma for example. First demos were pure goregrind Carcass worrship then the next two albums where a blend of goregrind and rock and roll. Like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath meets Carcass ect. Very cool they got a sound that was unique and worked. But then the next albums all they did was straight rock and roll. No blasts, no gargles, just cliche rock and roll. That pisses me off. IF you want to try something different or experiment with something try it out with another band and save your current band's sound and reputation. Or at least release an experimental EP.

Back on topic. I think you are an idiot for starting a thread about a band and then not wanting to hear people's thoughts. There is no need to be defensive, everyone is entitled to their oppinions. If you belive someone is mistaken or disagree just rationally and logical rebuttle.

Yeah, I prefer stuff like Dusk... And Her Embrace and Cruelty and the Beast. Damnation and a Day and Nymphetamine aren't that bad if you ask me though. The way I see it, Nymphetamine is overrated by little n00blets who have never heard a CoF song before Nymphetamine, but underrated by hardcore fans of the old stuff. The old stuff is much better, but Nymphetamine's not that bad imo. Except for Thornography. That album is crap if you ask me.

I'd just like to point out that, in the middle of what seems to be the most mature and coherent extended pieces of argument ever to make it out of CtL (even the metaphors were apt and amusing), I have on point of contention: When you said 'THAT IS CALLED SELLING OUT,' what he described was not selling out except for to 'go with the times.' To be honest, I think a lot of bands sell out by keeping the same sound year in, year out to placate their fans rather than changing and courting the risk that change entails. Of course, when I say 'change,' I mean the kind of change that's made King Crimson one of the most interesting bands out there at whatever time they've released albums over the course of the last 40 or so years. Unfortunately, most bands who sell out try to claim it's for the same reason, that their fans are being small-minded for feeling betrayed - but you still can't pretend that music is some kind of personal expression and that the same thing should be expressed endlessly over the course of a decades-long career. Even you wrote some non-Star Wars lyrics.
