Are any of these following bands actually satanic or is it all for the sake of being "cool" and for record sales?

I have had arguments with friends over BDM being satanic.I say it is all to be cool and for record sales but they keep citing the song thy horror cosmic b/c it is all about satan ruling the world. Thanks in advance for clearing some stuff up.Also if you are just gonna be a gay smartass dont post!

Anton LaVey himself stated that he calls his religion "Satanism" as a sort of joke in a way, because of how so many christians will call people "satanic" because they like metal music, they're atheist, or whatever the case may be. Your friends are stupid. BDM isn't anywhere close to being satanic. A band overall isn't satanic if they have just one or 2 songs with it as the theme. Cannibal Corpse isn't really tied to any religious theme, I don't believe; just blunt gore imagery.

I'm not familiar with Behemoth, Morbid Angel, or Celtic Frost enough, though.

I checked wikipedia, and it says that the drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz is a jew. Perhaps that's the one they were thinking of?

Also, you can never really tell what bands are purely satanic just by the lyrics and imagery and whatnot. Many bands who are accused of being satanist, such as Slayer and Deicide, are not. The singer/bassist for Slayer is a roman catholic, and so is one of the guitarists of Deicide, even though their singer is a satanist.

I think Farewell is actually confusing Cannibal Corpse with Deicide based on the "one member beings a christian" thing. Celtic Frost are definitely anti-christian by the way, just as Behemoth are, and just as Morbid Angel used to be. Whether that means "satanic" or not, I don't know.

If you take 'Satanic' to mean 'not Christian,' then all those bands are satanic. CC and BDM aren't anything near Satanic; Behemoth and Celtic Frost have both thrown in fairly literate Satanic-style references into their songs; and MA was never Satanic, rather originally gay Sumerian-style pagan and now gay Deepak Chopra-style new age. But, again, if you consider everything that is not godly to be Satanic, then they're all Satanic.

Why are you so obsessed with tying in musicians you don't know and will probably never meet to your own personal set of beliefs? In failing that, why are you interested at all as casting them as the very antithesis of what you believe? You can't honestly be that interested in trying to identify with these people, because it's both extremely difficult and pointless. These guys are extremely varied personalities with extremely varied backgrounds. Most of them aren't Christian. None of them worship a deity only Christians believe in. Why give a shit?

Morbid Angel - In the 80's, formerly Satanic and themed in HP Lovecraft's horror fiction(Necronomicon and stuff), later on strictly spiritual and Babylonian mythological themes.
Behemoth - Formerly Satanic in their black metal days, then Slavic mytholgy, then Crowley/Thelema and subsequently Assyrian and Babylonian mythology.

cannibal corpse it seems to me is just a kind of the tenacious D of metal, just fucking around with lyrics, but i could be totally wrong, thats my opinion. Behemoth is satanic in ways (some of the spirits they name in their songs i.e. baphomet, a demon worshipped by some of the Knights Templar, but they also name many gods from thracian, norse, and other ancient mythologies. But i found online that Apo Pantoz Kakodaimonoz, from Decade of Therion (which refers to the ruling of Aleister Crowley, the famous satanist, he sometimes referred to himself as Master Therion) means something like "keep the demons away" in english (i can't remember exactly). There is much to argue for an against Behemoth as satanists or not. But Morbid Angel i doubt, as with BDM. Plz correct me if u find anything standing out wrong in my schpiel lol.

i have been reading up and it looks to me that Behemoth isn't really a "satanist" group, they believe some of the things that they strive for, self-enlightenment and putting urself on the highest throne, cuz satanism isn't really about satan as most of u probably know, its about worshipping urself and striving to be your best. But idk u could label it either way, but i read his thoughts on his lyrics, and Nergal has really deep and interesting beliefs.

CC is just a gory death metal band and Black Dahlia is way to mainstream to be anything seriously offensive.
