My highs are pretty raspy and evil and I like them that way, good for deathmetal, not too blackmetal, which is pretty good being as how I don't like most blackmetal.

however whenever I do vocals in my lower guttural range they're way too low and "airy". I'd like them to have more of a hardcore scream/shout to them or more of a grindy feel to them, I dont know how to do an outward vocal (rather then inward) squeel at all, and I dont know how to get the same texture for outward vocals as you would do inwards, such as bands like Underneath The Gun and With Blood Comes Cleansing does.

am I pushing out too much air?

or am I still just lacking the "false vocal chord"

not that I think i've found it anyways.

The only way I get my vocals to go extremely deep is attempting to sing as if you were constipated. Be careful though! You don't wanna shit yourself.

dude...its easy. you just gotta break your low voice in. try it over and over again and make it as loud and gutterlike as you possibly can until your throat hurts, even if it sounds like shit.

wait for throat to heal...do it again.....

scar tissue will build over the tearing areas in your throat and then it wont hurt when you do it in the future...they wont fade....AND you will be able to do much better lows.

but your lows are more along the boundries i'd like to acheive, mine are too LOW and airy. yours are great.

too bad Job For A Cowboy's vocals are pretty much all the mastering or i'd say that that's pretty close to what i'd like to accomplish tone wise. (the lows).

yeah we played with them in kernersville NC last year. they suck live. i can do those pig bree brees too. and they ARENT inhales like ppl think....i talked with him after show. ;-)

ill record new vox soon if ppl want. the vocals in my bands last cd werent mastered though, just volumized/mixed. :-)

it's sorta shitty, I get too close and too far away from the mic at parts, I also tend to get too loud/high pitched towards the end due to the strain of the fact I had been practicing for over an hour pre-hand aswell as without water.

but the REAL stuff is when you dont have to cup your mic and be able to make all highs and lows still sound amazing. ill get a video of my old band live and show you some. i do SOMe cupping but probabayl 30 seconds total out of a 4 second song.

it was for the inwards, I did'nt cup at all for lows or highs.

edit: and i did'nt cup it nearly at all actually, that's how I generally hold the microphone, I just get closer for the inwards, I could'nt cup my highs or my lows if I tried, my mic would pic up all the air flow, and make it sounds bassy and terrible. and as I said I cant squeel outwards, so those parts were a quick transfer to inwards squeels.

you held both hands around the head of the mic, which adds extra distortion because you are forcing all sound into a small select area of the mic.

and dont do inwards!!! do the little bree bree bree things exhaling. just try and try and you will figure out how to do it. i did. :-) sounds better and you can do it LOUD then too.

Oh I know, I've been trying to figure out how to breeeeee outwards forevor, I tried using the same mouth techniques as inwards, that did'nt hit it either.

My friend Jeremy who is in Before The Burning www.myspace.com/beforetheburning does them quite well and I've been trying to get him to teach me, but he tells me he really cant explain it too well.

eh. they are alright. dude..its all just practice. i do it in my car all the time when i am alone and i finally just hit a note and was like...NO WAY. and then i just trained myself to do it. even if you sound like shit and feel stupid in the car like (damn i suck)

you will end up going through so many different ways it will just come to you.

i'm trying to get a more grindy tone rather then an airy tone and i'm not having too much luck figuring it out.

the way i do the outwards that sound like inhales is i push out enough air to get past a clean whisper tone but not too much that its a tone louder than a whisper, if that makes sence. theres a middle point and it helps for me to stick my tounge on the roof of my mouth.

I don't understand this pig squeal thing. Kids act likes it's walking on water. I myself find it stupid, first time I tried it I hit it dead on and did it as a joke. Not my thing. Eh.

it's not necessarily the squeel that I would like to acheive, it's the technique behind it that gives the "windy" whistle like sound.

actually it had been sitting in my fridge for a while, I was at my friend's house last weekend and he did'nt have anything to drink, and his dishes were dirty, so I walked down to the grocery store and bought that gallon of water for 67 cents.
