well my tubes started glowing blue lastnight so I guess that means time to fork out for some new ones. Currently im running TAD tubes for everything but I dont think they have quite enough low end for me so i'm consideriing the following

Power amp - Ruby, Sovtek, Groove tubes, electro harmonix, JJ telsa

Pre-amp - Electro harmonix (I dont really know of many good pre amp tubes so suggestions would be muchly appreciated!)

Anybody with an Engl know what sounds best?

Yeah I don't think the color of the glow is indication of dying tubes. Besides blue looks cool!

Just wait til your tone starts to suffer or til you get volume dropouts, then swap in the new tubes. Out of the ones you have available for the poweramp, I suggest JJ/Tesla.

And instead of EH's for the preamp look for Tungsol 12AX7, JJ ECC83S's, SED's maybe, or TADs. JJ's being the least expensive option, but still pretty fuckin brutal.

The gain is sounding weak and its gone really muddy so I think its time to change now :P

Found a good deal on 4 JJ telsas so im thinking i'll go with those and 5 Tungsol 12AX7's.

Ruby, Groove Tubes and TAD are the same, just a different stamp on them.

JJ's are really good in Engl amps.
