Kahler cant handle extremely heavy gauge strings?
I have a Kahler 2315 and everytime I dive the low B (which is like 62 I think) goes out of tune, as does the 5th string (which is probably about a 58). Anyone have any ideas how I can remedy this?

None of the other strings go out of tune? Those two strings share the same locking nut clamp, so I think that is the problem. The clamp can't handle the gauge and is allowing those strings to slip.
I've never seen it done but you might need to get a second locking nut on the guitar behind the other. That should fix everything.

COuldnt you file down the locking nut grooves a bit so that both strings are level with each other? I dont have a Kahler trem, but I think that might fix the problem.

I can confirm this! I used to have a guitar tuned to B with a Kahler 2310 trem on it. You have to use the heavier springs on it, first of all. But second, regardless of the locking nut setup, it won't stay in tune very good that low with the Kahler. Mine had the standard floyd locking nut (just like what Slayer does) and I am sorry to report......it would not stay in tune very well. This was a real bummer as it is quite expensive and is a great trem. tuning low on it just plain sucks IMO. I tried everything including taking it to a VERY good tech, and it just would not stay in tune. I ended up getting an RG520QS for B tuning and that stays in tune great. Ibanez guitars tune down the best out of them all. just the way it is unfortunately. I like Kahler's but they aren't good for real low tunings.

Did you get the heavy springs put on the Kahler? That helps with lower tunings as well.

Maybe something is just wrong with that locking nut clamp?
My Ibanez RG570 had the same problem once, whenever I used the bar or just played after a while, one of the pairs of strings (in this case the bottom two) would 100% all the time always go out of whack. I use 10 to 52's on that guitar, with 3 super heavy springs screwed in as far as they go into the cavity of the body (for comfortably tuning as far down as D), so I thought "hmm, that's odd." I moved the clamps around, retuned and locked, and this time the top two strings went out of tune. Bingo. All I had to do was get some new clamps and this stopped happening.

Jeez man. I hope I dont have to go to Floyd Rose
Slayer isnt as low as us though.
Not very well is an understatement, it goes COMPLETELY out of whack.

Just get the heavy Kahler springs and take a really good look at the Locking nut clamp because I bet it's slipping the strings. I'm sure one of those things will fix the problem.

It seems like the problem is with the locking clamp. I still dont see why a Kahler wouldnt be able to hold low tunings if all the parts are working properly. It is a double locking trem so it should be able to hold any tuning. Its gotta be string slippage like Soulinsane said.

I'm sure it's the clamp thing. Roger from Mortician had a B.C. Rich Bich with a Kahler and he tunned it to A and then A# and now G standard. So it can handle low tunnings.
Also Slayer plays in B in some songs. Kerry used a Floyd cause he had a 7 string and Jeff used a Kahler.

kahler locking clamps looks rather homosexual imo.
its too bad you have to use them if your going to tune down
im sorry to bring up this shitty band...but how comes mick from slipknot perfectly tunes to drop B with a 58 string whilst using a kahler and a standard locking nut?

As has been already stated, a double locking system will stay in tune if you know how to set it up properly.

I like using the Floyd locking nuts, but the Kahler locking nuts are easier to setup and allow you to use a conventional nut at the same time.
I've never had a problem with my Floyd lock nut holding low tunings, but I have seen some that don't. The clamps are normally just worn out.

I had the same problem with my floyd rose and you need fatter strings. youll probably need to file downd the lock blocks and get stronger springs on the back.because the top 2 srings are too low to stay in tune. I use 60 and 52 in D flat and thats as low as i can go without customizing.
Also, if you put heavier strings on the bottoms (e,b,g,ect.) it will tighten up the top for you.

Heres how you can tell if a string is slipping. Sorry if someones already said this, i don't have time to read through all of these. Take a black magic marker, and with your guitar, normal, and in tune, mark as close to the nut as you can with the black marker on the strings. so if this is the nut and string (two vertical lines being the nut, and the horizontal being the string, x being the locking clamp) --|x|-- you would mark the string like this (astric being the mark) --*|x|*-- now DONT touch any of these markers as they may rub off. dive bomb and wank around for a bit. now if these marks have moved, from their original location, that is your problem.
PS. I have never used a Kahler before, so im not sure if the locking mechanisim is the same as a floyd or close. You may be able to adapt this method to yours still though.

While we are on the topic of Kahler trems. I just want to know are they easy to re-string? A guitar tech told me they are a nightmare to use.

I never used a Kahler before, but I dont think it would be hard, if anything it would be easier since you dont have to cut the ball ends off. All you might have to do is bend the ends of the strings to fit the contour of the trem so they stay in tune better.

The tech guy doesn't seem to know that much about Kahler bridges. They are super easy to restring. No nightmares or voodoo magic involved. Its like putting strings a fixed bridge. I cant think of how to make it any easier really.

I thought the guy was full of shit. Well then again I should have known better to listen to him. It's the same guy who said a guitar tremelo can't be tunned lower than Eb. haha So I set up my Ibanez to A right in the store infront of everyone.
Awsome news about the Kahler being easy.

Err I figured it out in about 10 minutes.
Floyd Rose took me a bit longer (due to balancing it and stuff)
