Dimarzio X2N wiring question

I picked up a Dimarzio X2N and had a question about the wiring you guys might be able to help me out with. The pickup has the standard Green, Red, White, and Black wires but it also has a bare silver wire in the wiring bundle. What is bare/silver wire for and how should it be wired?
