Crate GX-130C

Is a exelent condition Crate GX-130C Amp Head a good price at $300? I am trying to get the guy down to $250.

I can not get the Ampeg head I am looking for and this seems to be a pretty good back up.

Any thoughts?

Peter

There was a whole thread about the GX-130c a few years back where Necro_Butcher did a review on it. Apparently Jack Owen from Cannibal Corpse used these amps and the tone is faithful to those expectations.
I'd also look into the Crate GT3500H Shockwave, which I've heard is technically based on the Ampeg VH140c (how much of this is true I only wish to know.) I remember when I started dreaming up my new rig I was either going to go for a Randall Cyclone (another awesome SS amp not in production anymore) or a Crate Shockwave. AmericanMusical.com is selling these Shockwave heads for like $259 now, now if only it were that easy and cheap to get a VH140c I'd be happy.

Check out the new thread Crate head + cab deal for a couple more words about the Shockwave.

Cool thread I just dug up from Harmony Central's Forums... Crate GX-130 vs. Crate GT3500H Shockwave vs. the Ampeg VH140c. According to this thread two guys have also confirmed that the Crate VTX 350 head shares the same preamp circutry of the Ampeg VH140c on two of its three distortion channels, so check that out also if you're able.

250$ is too expensive, on ebay they sell for well under 200$ all the time. Just wait a week or 2 on ebay.

Wow...really? I have seen combos on ebay but I have not seen any heads. I figure on ebay even if i bought it for $200 the shipping is going to be a minimum of $50 - $60 so $250 would be ok since this is a local pick up.

Damn!!! This whole buying a new amp is killing me. So many opinions!!!

Thank you Soeru!!!

The dude I bought it from has a crappy cab and I just tested it quick to make sure it was working.

I have a marshall combo at my practice room I am going to try and run it through tomorrow, but I am not sure how. I am not looking for a 4x12 cab.
