feedback problems- lower the height of pickups?

I'm using LTD M-100, and an Ampeg SS-70 amp, with no pedals.

I'm getting a ton of feedback, but I am not sure if it is because I have the gain tweaked up to the max (not an option for me to change this. I want to play death metal, and bought this amp for this reason).

I have already tried moving away from the amp when i play, and still the same thing.

Can I lower the height of my pickups to fix the problem?

Any other suggestions? If not, I guess I will have to take the amp in to a technician.

Its cause youve maxed out your gain, and yes you do have a choice, you probably dont need to run that much gain. Just turn it down a few notches.

No technician needed. Cut down on that treble and gain and boost those mids. And are you using the high gain channel input or the clean channel's crunch? Ampeg SS's are fucking brutal by themselves. You shouldn't need to dime the gain on any amp like that for death metal.
