I didn't take any before pictures, but it came with no bridge, and a kahler locking/plastic nut. From what I can gather, the moron who had it last tried to lower the action by filing down the plastic nut on the headstock, then glued it back on. The problem was, the nut was so low that the strings hit the first fret, so the guitar couldn't even be played. So first, I unbolted the Kahler nut, and popped off the ground down plastic nut (it was glued) that was put there by the previous (retarded) owner. The floyd rose locking nut I had left over from my old LTD wouldn't fit up flush to the fretboard because of the way it was designed, so I took to it with the grinder in the garage until it fit up flush with the fretboard. I prepped the headstock, glued that fucker on and now it plays just as well as any other guitar I have I even screwed in that little bar after the nut because the headstock is off at a bit of an angle compared to the nut.

Nah man I bought it at the guitar show at the city center yesterday. Some dude was pushing bc rich and kahler shit, so I made a deal with him. He was asking 250 for the guitar and 150 for the new kahler, but I talked him down to 300 for both. The guitar has some small splits in the finish, a big chip that you can see in that picture, plus the doubt that the guitar was fucked up seeings that there was no bridge on it, which it was

Yeah it was 7 bucks to get in, but they gave you 2 dollars off if you brought (not bought) a guitar or amp  Why the fuck would I lug a guitar around for 2 dollars, and how do they benefit from that?

that's because he just follows the guitars really. I think you'd notice if it was absent, but it just fills in the low end following along with the guitars, so it's not really going to stand out.

Yeah, he basically just adds fullness to the overall sound, because without him, i dont think kerry's 8 guage strings tuned down to B would sound that full really haha

Thats with every band. Metal definitely has to be the biggest offender of what a bass guitar is good for.
Seems like alot of metal musicians could care only less for bass, but without the cohesion of tying the drums to the guitar the music would sound thin and lifeless.
I don't particularly care if a bassist does anything other than adding the fullness to the sound. If they want to progress out and do things that attract to the music (not standout so much that it sounds like the bassist is really a lead guitar) then so be it.

I prefer the bass to stand out more and add an extra element to the music. Fill the rhythm and be its own instrument at the same time.

I think it really depends on the style. Sometimes when the bass is too audible it gets annoying. I don't think I would want Tom's bass really high in the mix. If they're just following the guitar, then wouldn't it make sense to have the guitar out front and the bass just filling in the low end, basically just accentuating the guitar? Now it's different in a band like Decrepit Birth or some tech band where the bass is obviously not going to follow the guitars, then I'd like to be able to hear what they are doing instead.

It does depend on the style of the music. I just don't find it necessary to follow the guitar all the time, it is possible for the bass to add to the sound than just create the bottom end of the rhythm. Take Alex Webster for example. But that's just me I guess.

I don't think anybody actually ever said it's necessary to always follow the guitar all the time. I just think in a band like Slayer, it's best for that sound. Can you really picture Alex Webster in Slayer? haha. It'd be interesting, but I think it would definitely take away from that dominant guitar sound that Slayer is known for

I said "necessary" because it seems to me that many metal bassists seem to be comfortable just following guitar. That irks me for some reason. Eh, each to their own.
I'd like to hear Alex play for Slayer. I don't think he could hurt their sound, he might even add a little something new. But this is coming for a guy who isn't a Slayer fanboy. Sorry.

I can certainly listen to them, I respect what they've done for metal, Reign In Blood was even the second album I ever bought (after Eaten Back To Life), I also think they're excellent musicians. I just don't know, they've never really clicked with me like other bands I listen to.

I feel the same way as you, I like some Slayer, but I'm not a die hard "OMFG SLAYER KICKS FUCKING ASS" type of fan. So many people give me shit about not being totally into them, but I can't help it, I'm just not a hardcore fan. I respect everything they have done for metal, and I do like listening to some of their stuff, but that's it.

RiB is good, don't get me wrong, but it tends to be a little bland. The highlight of Slayer for me is Seasons, by far. Followed by Divine Intervention, then Christ Illusion (i don't care what you people say, this album is killer) , South of Heaven, and so on. But since we're talking about RiB, Angel of Death is the highlight for me.. it'll just never get old. If that opening riff doesn't get your heart rate up, even slightly, then i'm convinced you must be either dead or deaf.

haha bob you're lucky I didn't know you were a Nile fan after you made those Slayer comments! I would have really let you have it haha. They are one of the most bland sounding bands around. I mean yeah, the egyptian thing is cool, and they're undeniable talented, but when I listen to one of their CD's, i feel like it's just one big long song that just won't seem to end!
