There is no way I answer this question without sounding like a complete smartass. Why dont you plug in your amp and start turning knobs?

The left EQ knob will give you more bass, the middle knob will give you more presence in the mix and more crunch, the right knob more treble.

Eq's are arranged so from left to right, the frequency increases. which gives you bass on the left, trebel on the right. Open up Itunes or windows media or winamp or whatever you use and dick around with the EQ, that will be the best way to learn.

I have a ton of articles printed out about this subject back from the days I used to do recording, but this one I just found is pretty cool.

as these guys said, the sliders go left to right, bass to treble. there are no rules, but in general the guitar is a mid-range instrument, so you should boost up the middle frequencies and make more subtle bass and treble adjustments. but if you're talking about the EQ knobs on your amp, and you're not having much luck tweaking those, then consider an external EQ like a pedal with anywhere from 6 to 10 bands.

Ah yes that article is great, very informative for recording and mastering.

Your guitar has a frequency range.
Lower frequencies have lower pitches, and higher ones have higher pitches.

The different nobs may either boost or cut a certain band of frequencies.
Lows boost/Cut... lows
Mids boost/Cut ... mids
Highs boost/Cut... highs

So if you boost the lows, the lower harmonics of your guitar will be louder.

They're just like volume knobs for certain frequencies.
