they are nu-metal. They mix heavy guitars with rap like vocals = nu-metal. They also have a mixer.... there nu-metal. Thats like saying britany spears is metal.

Linkin Park is just more whiney rap metal generic stuff...(hed) p.e. is easily the band who's pulled that off the best (rap and metal, that is) and still stayed true to doin what the fuck they want and not what's popular. but anyway, non "metal" stuff would be
Queens of the Stone Age
lotsa hardcore punk (F-Minus, DS-13, etc.)
Thursday
Drive Like Jehu
Sweep The Leg Johnny (good math rock with a sax player)
Hex Error
the Vandals
it's kinda sad but I don't listen to a lot of stuff that isn't inherently heavy and/or extreme so my list isn't that long.
Cheers,
x x

The only non metal CD i have is "Republica", and that CD sucks except for 1 kick ass song: "Ready to Go" I love that song.
Otherwise, I just listen to all different genres of metal...........
As for Linkin Park, I dont wanna start a war, but I wouldnt even consider em to be metal. Especially from what I have heard off of their "new" album. It is basically rap music, just like eminem. There isnt much metal left in it.
bands like papa roach still can fall into the nu metal category, but LP is basically just plain rap.

I can't stand the annoying guitar riffs and the endless drumming that sounds about the same with every punkband...
ok, I admit, I do have some punk cd's;
-The Descendents
-No Use For A Name
-Operation Ivy
-Undeclinable Ambuscade
I don't listen to them anymore, but I remember that operation ivy has some nice bassriffs, it's the same bassist as the later rancid bassist so it figures.
