q: X2N

i just wired an X2N into my guitar ... connections are all soldered right and sounds fine.

just wondering if the orientation of the pickup in the cavity matters (im assuming it does) and how to tell which way it goes. there are no markings on the pickup whatsoever aside from letter F (which is just noting that it's f-spaced right?). cant find any info regarding this on the site or on the sheet that came w it.

When you play your guitar, the wire end of the pickup should face the floor.. if that makes sense.

It's a bar magnet type pickup, so it doesn't matter.

It might, remember dimebag? The two bars may have different wiring, one side may be treblier than the other i think. Perhaps the X2N has two completely identical bars though.

Well i read that he installed his Bill Lawrence L-500(X)L the "wrong" way to get a bassier tone or something like that.

Edit:
"The first thing I do with any guitar I find is to Floyd Rose it immediately and then I install a Bill Lawrence L-500-L pickup. In many ways, the Bill Lawrence is really the key to my sound; it's a killer pickup . On the reble strings, it's a real bitch—sounds almost like you're running a Cry Baby with the pedal pushed down a bit. It gives you that clear harmonic tone—you get alittle bit of pick squeal every time you hit a not up there. And, of course, it's real thick and chunky on the low strings.

Anyhow, after I get the Lawrence in, I flip it upside down, so that the hot pole, instead of being in the treble position, is in the front rather than near the bridge. It's toally thick and chunky. It sounds good the other way too, buit 's a little too squirmy for me. Lately, I've been usinga Lawrence L-500-XL, which is an even hotter pickup."

cool thx not familar with bill lawrence.

its a pain with this trem i've got, i cant slack the strings enough without everything falling apart. if it wasn't for that, i'd play around with it a bit more.

I have a x2n and it's killer. I like it much better than the emg 81 i used to have. Much more organic sounding. That said, I installed it the "correct" way and sounds great. It'd be too much trouble to install it upside down to see what happens.

Same here. X2N seems to project the inherent voice of the guitar better.

for wiring config, i just went with the "standard hb series" diagram. the guitar is an RG with H-S-H. i just got the pickup without any special switches or w/e. was this the best option for high gain? im no expert w electronics.
