MOCKINGBIRD NJ (neckthru)
the question is?
is it metal?
i'd like to buy one as stated in the ironbird thread or maybe just make one.
but the thing is most people are playing it for classic rock.
with an OFR in it, and like a x2n and then a jazz, would i t be metal for me?
does it have a thin neck?
BTW: yes i checked HC bfore postin this
please any owners of the mockingbird, please tell me about this beautiful guitar

A lot of metal guys use mockingbirds. Any guitar can be "metal" with the right pickups and adjustments.
Some metal bands that use(d) the mockingbird:
Death
Pungent Stench
Exhumed
Incantation
Immolation
tons

Dude from Nasum used a USA Mockingbird... Rob Vigna from Immolation too. As well as Jesse Pintado of Napalm Death and Terrorizer fame.
The NJ Classic neckthru(yellowish one) is a sweet axe I have played. It's an LP style guitar but more comfortable than LPs, plus you get full length 24 fret scale, not pussy ass 22 fret scale. Inlays are not mindblowing and the finish isn't that amazing in person, but it's a nice guitar. The exotic specials(like 200$ or 300$) are beautiful, they sport nicer looking woods.
Why bother putting a Floyd in it? There are plenty of other mockingbirds that come with floyds. Like the new NT series that come in trans red and black with QM tops. Killer axes but I think birds are better suited as fixed bridge guitars...

I played a newer neck-thru NJ rich bich and it was garbage. Don't know about the mockingbirds though.

Because why would you buy a 400$ fixed bridge guitar to route a floyd into it? Routing is expensive. Just buy an NT or older NJ, they already come with floyds.

Good point.
You could always look on ebay for an older model. The 80's Rich's were good. I'm sure you could find an older model with a Floyd or Kahler already on it

Jesse's early days with ND, he was playing a floyded Mockingbird, like in the "If the Truth Be Known" videoclip. I've also seen him with that mockingbird in some backyard DIY Terrorizer gig video I have from '88. Later on with a red Charvel Model 6(not a Jackson but looks like many dinkys). I have a black model 5 and it kills.

Yeah I've seen that. In fact I've seen Dallas Ward from Nile using that live once, amongst a few other guitars.

Yeah, my bad. Dallas Ward was an old bassplayer from Morbid Angel that got jailed for drug possession.

mockingbirds, or rockingbirds both look really elegant and beautiful guitars. they have a sleek look that is beautiful, yet some of its sharp ends make it look aggressive, and with the right color, and the right attitude from the player, it can work. i mean, les pauls were created for classic rock, yet look at em being used in punk, grung, pop, and metal!
if i were to buy a mockingbird(which, i wont be surprised if i do...i wanna atleast 1 guitar of each body type. excluding several V's. just rhoads is good for me!) then id prolly get this in this color as well:

ahh, i love white guitar!

got mine finally. NJ Classic $350 shipped.
neck is a little bit fatter than the Beast but still comfortably thin. aesthetically nice craftsmanship (the cloud inlays look really good ... nice work on the layering on the front too ... maybe a little too glossy overall??).
hardware is ok. stock pickups are warm and a bit muddy needed to boost gain with my eq to get it screaming. tuners are solid. bridge is fine. appreciate the separate volume controls. can't get the action super low without buzz ... but it's not horrendous for the price (better than my RG370 by a long shot). average sustain (Beast was superior in that dept) thought it would be better on a neckthru. nato is light and shape is very comfortable.
one of the nicer budget korean-mades that i've seen/played. worth the $. (fave korean so far is my Gretsch doublejet ... paid 400 i think and it's perfect, no good for metal tho).
