Key the songs are in???
k so i've been finding all those scales all over the web and such on websites and they all say "if you know what key the song is in you can use such and such scale to write a bass line."
so how do i know in what key the song is in? Is there a website that is actually helpfull for this purpose?
Thanks.

Well, you need to know the natural minor and major scales... And that's it really...

first of all find the starting note, most of the time many songs begin on the note they are written in, otherwise get a copy of the music and look at how many sharps or flats there are and use the circle of fifths to discern which key the song is played in

Well, if you gain some experience you will be able to tell by ear. It will eventually come naturally to you.

i'd recommend taking some theory lessons, or at the very least doing some reading on it. to really understand keys and scales and the circle of fifths takes some time. like previously mentioned you can tell what key a piece is in by how many sharps or flats appear next to the time signature. check out www.activeguitar.com for some cool scales and arpeggios.

lawl. I haven't thought about the circle of fifths since my clarinet days...two years of bass lessons and I don't even think it was mentioned.
Anyways, someone that knows/remembers theory help this guy out.
