changing it WILL help a lot. The head was designed for use with Celestion Gold's, which are pretty much the god of celestions... imagine a high wattage blue back. Theyre realllllly nice speakers, and marshall mg speakers will never measure up to them. What i'd do if i were you is just replace the speakers in your cab with some golds.

a fuckload. 4 of em... you're looking at around 1200$
http://www.zzounds.com/item--CELGOLD12
If you get enough money, i'd just say buy 2 of them and replace 2 speakers on a diagonal inside of the cab... and then eventually get around to replacing the other 2 with v30's or something...
edit: added
MAKE SURE YOU GET 16 OHM VERSIONS!
... personally, the golds are too expensive for my taste, and i'd just go for eminences. They sound amazing and they're way cheaper than celestions... celestion is like the prada of speakers hahahha.

MG cabs are pretty horrible, I would definitely say that that is your problem.

Go here and you can get a nice Vintage style Marshall 4x12 and you can choose what speakers go in it.
