Exclamation my marshall 30th anniversery head

hey.
ok so i have a 30th anniversery marshall amp. i can sell it for $2500 or around that, it doesnt have the sound that i want.so i was wondering,
A.should i sell it and maybe buy a marshall jmp-1 el34100/100 rig,a marshall jcm1000(or another type of marshall),or a mesa boogie or karnk krankenstien?
Or B. get a BBC sonic maximizer or some pedals?
your opinion would be greatly appreciated. i would aslo like any recomendations that you have for amps or effects.
thanks.
Rock on.

dont get a krank, dont get a BBE.

I have a 30th anniversary too, its an LM, i bought it for 800, there is no way in hell you will EVER get 2500... unless you found somebody dumb enough, in which case you are a lucky son of a bitch hahahahaha. The LE edition(gold and blue) doesnt even go for that high.

JMP-1 el34 100/100 is a solid rig, but its expensive as hell. It can get you SO much, i'd definately reccommend that for a studio, its every marshall at your fingertips, but if you dont like marshall tone, i wouldn't recommend.

What kind of music do you play? that will better help me figure out a Mesa for ya. If you want a more british voiced one, go for a stilletto. If you want heavy death metal skull fucking goodness, get a dual or triple rectifier. If you do hardcore/metalcore/emocore blahblahblah, single or dual rectifier will do for ya.

i play stuff like metallica, trivium, slayer, deicide, a lil bit of everything. so i want somethin versitile. i tried a mesa (dual rectifier i think.) and it wasnt very crunchy. and i tend to like crunchy. but the problem that ive had with marshall is i want more low end. im not an expert on amps or anything.so ill take any advice.thanks again.

Tried turning the volume on the marshall skyhigh and playing through a quality cab? Key with marshalls and low end is that you need to push the volume through the roof.

DR's can do crunchy, but EQ'ing that thing is a total bitch. You'd need to rent one for a few days or something to get it properly. These aren't what you want though, you want something tighter & brighter with less of the DR's low-mid murk.

Suggestion: ENGL powerball/fireball. US type distortion with quite a bit of marshally flavor in it and also the trademark botique / german "aggressive & clear" sound. Does not nail any of the tones you listed but it can get in the ballpark of them all and do them all very convincing. Decent clean channel too, but people claim the mid-gain tones are totally worthless.

more low end eh? Dude, i think all you need is to get a maxon OD 808 or ibanez TS 808 pedal, and run it into the crunch channel. That should do some wonders.

But listen to Jopop, hes damn right about the ENGL's, they fuckin destroy all in the gain department. The Powerball is my fav sounding one, super tight.

With the right touch, that Marshall should work perfectly for what you need. Either some tube swaps or a few little mods would give you the low end you need. Does the Marshall still have stock tubes? If yes, then thats your problem right there.

I like DR's....I might get that next.....or just get a 5150 again.....I don't know wtf is so hard about eq'ing Rectos. Yeah it's no JCM800 in terms of simplicity, but I wouldn't think that several hours of jamming on it wouldn't be able to make you decide on an ideal tone. The problem with your tastes....well not really a problem, but liking the Metallica tone and Slayer tone doesn't mix very well. They're pretty much the complete opposites.

I would have thought that would do the opposite, Tubescreamers are notorious for having a mid-boost and scooping out the bass. If you need certain frequencies boosts there's only one option: EQ. MXR 10-Band, Danelectro Fish n Chips or a Boss GE-7.

If he likes the sound but wants more lowend, I'd recommend the best of both worlds. A JMP-1 running through a Mesa poweramp. With the deep mode, it'll fatten that up a jmp-1 no prob. Or if he wants to go the cheaper option, an EQ in the loop should do it.

Ibanez tubescreamers tend to suck out a lot of bass, I wouldnt suggest that if you're looking to add resonance using a bright sounding amp.

+1 on Engl Fireball/Powerball, even my 2 channel Fireball is wicked versatile, anyone that tells you it cant do mid-gain crunch is lying.
