Is this a good Deal?
I have the chance to get my hands on a Crate BV50 head for 175.99 plus shipping and I was was wondering is it worth it?
is it going to be able to handle the volumes and distortion for Death Metal at 50 watts?

If it's in working condition, yeah, it's a killer head. and that's a great price. Plus it's a small size head, much lighter than the BV-60's too.
Volume wise you won't have absolutely any problem. 50W tube RMS is retardedly loud, you'll never even need to crank it to 10 o clock at your house. Some people find their blue voodoo's to need some extra overdrive to sound brutal enough, but I've heard some sound samples that sound pretty brutal and tight with no boost.

thas from the rectifier... so at lower volumes (anything below 60%) it will sound tight, but as volume increases, the attack will loosen up which is when people start wanting the boost which allows them to lay off amp gain which effectively tightens the sound.
but yeah, 50 watts is FUCKING loud. I can only ever barely hear a difference when i switch my marshall from 100 to 50 watts, the volume reduction is so minor that i didnt notice it the first few times i did it.

Yeah a double in wattage is only a 3-4 decibel increase MAX, that's barely audible for a human ear(like a 10-15% difference).
Plus this is a tube amp, so it is inherently well louder than any SS amp around twice or in some cases 3 times in its wattage if run into the same cab at the same ohmage.
You do get more lowend with higher wattage amps though, but 50W will achieve earthquaking lows so no need to worry.

i discovered that's caused by more powertubes in the circuit
my amp has 2 funny switches, pentode/triode (full tube or half tube) and half power (which essentially takes 2 powertubes out of the circuit.
Now, when i switch to triode, i lose a fuckload of gain, bass and definition, which is understandable because the tube isnt saturated with electricity anymore, because only 3 of the 5 poles are charged.
When i do half power, i lose a tiny bit of volume and a little bit of bass... attribution? more powertubes = more bass.
Makes me want to try a Sound City 120 Mark IV... 120 watts class A caused by 6 fuckin el34's in a line hahahhha. i bet that thing could cook steaks.
